Had seedlings at about 2 inches tall on 1/23/12. That is what I call the start date but from earlier grows I have found you cant really go from when you put the seed into dirt. It always takes a bit longer. So these are dutch passion auto mazar. They are 104 days old have huge flowers look ripe but the leaves are not yellowing like other strains I have grown. Do I wait for the leaves or cut now???

The only way to really tell is to get a magnifier and look at the trichomes, after which you can make an assessment of what the smoke might be like. The higher the proportion of amber trichomes the heavier, or more couch-locky, the smoke will be. Yellowing leaves is definitely not a good way to tell because some growers and strains will end up with greener leaves than others. The proportion of red hairs is a better way of judging and if there aren't that many white ones left then I would go ahead and harvest, if I couldn't look at the trichs. Some people say 60% red and other percentages but you just can't be that accurate so I won't bother.

Not all auto stains show amber trics, so that's not the most reliable methods either. At nearly 15 weeks I would think they should be done. Can you post a picture so we can have a look?

Apologies I was not aware of that. Good to know though. So what is the most reliable method then?

get a magnifier and take a look at the colour of the trichomes. If you see any amber its good to chop, you can leave them go a little longer till you get more amber trichomes if you prefer a heavier more couchlock type stone.

No need to apologize. Normally leaf color, combined with the color of the trics is a good method. Usually around week 8 or 9 the fan leaves will start to yellow and the trics will turn all milky. I like to wait till all the fan leaves are gone and the bud leaves are turning yellow.

I've had some strains go as long as 14 weeks but by then all the fan leaves are gone. I've not seen one go 15 weeks with all the leaves still green. One reason I asked to see a picture.

Thanks man, I'll keep that in mind for future. Hopefully the not so distant future.

leaf colour and trichs are a good way, as is just sqwzzing lightly, done bud will be nice and firm, as the flowers are swollen out, usuallly hair browning, some trichs go amber, some dont, but a scope,x45, from china is 2 quid on ebay and excellent, i have them but i just look, once the lower smaller side branches are as firm as poss its done usually! and dependant on strain 15 wks is possible, got some mini gun that are usually 12 but as its been cold are at 12 and still about 5 to go!
