When Are Your Seeds Ready to Harvest

I found out that the local computer store gets a lot of them in the stuff they order so they are going to save them for me. thanks Buddha but I think I got it solved now.

I know the ones you mean. I never thought about using them for bud storage but it sounds interesting I will check it out for sure.

The bags a lot of computer parts come in (kinda dark, with a mettalic-like sheen) also work well for storing bud, not much bud as most of the bags are small, but they protect from sunlight & are anti-static too. That computer store could probably hook you up with those too.

Someone asked me on a PM when are your harvested seeds ready to plant. I am answering the question here because it is a wicked interesting question.

If you are like me and try to leave the seeds in the plant until they start falling out and land on the surface of the soil where the seed mother in growing you probably already know the answer the question. If you keep the soil damp the darn old seeds will just start growing on their own. They don't ask your permission they just do their thing. I always appreciate it when they prove themselves out all on their own. I find it is the true sign they give you to go ahead and harvest the rest of them out of the plant before they all fall out.

If you have made seeds before you are probably allready in the habit of leaving the seeds on the plant until they get dark in colour and the seed pod is starting to open and you can see the black of the seed showing itself. Even at this late date you will still get some immature seeds but much fewer. Somebody once said leave those seeds on the plant until the plant files for its pension, I liked that.

After I have the seeds off the plant I let them dry in a bowl, stiring them daily with your finger, for at least a week before I store them. Throw away all the soft seeds they just make moisture and probably won't grow anyways. After a week if the seeds have not allready proved themselves by growing in the Mom's pot I plant about ten to check the germination. I store my seeds in baby food jars, well labelled and chuck in a pack of silica gel so there is no chance of molding them. If your seeds mold they are pretty much ruined as only about 1 in 10 will germinate. Time to chuck them into the compost pile. Cool and dark is the best place to store them and a refridgarator sure serves that purpose.

Do most seeds turn black when fully mature? I harvested a bunch last week where the seed pods had split and the seed was showing and they were a light tan color with dark tigerstiping.

I think what nelson was referring to was just the darkness of the seed showing through the split calyx. I have personally never seen a black seed. Most of the ones I've seen are brown with stripes. Some have been white and others silver.

yes some black or blackish,,,and lots brown with the tiger strips...white is a color that rarely ever germs... general rule darker the better weather it be brown or blackish...

Wow those sound like the Afghan Black Tiger Seed. They are jewels. Is the pot purple? I'm wicked excited/

No shit man. It used to be the favorite pot around these parts twenty years ago. It was really fun stuff. It got taken over by Bubble gum. then the bubble gum started to have a lot of mold problems and then White Widow and AK47 took over the scene. Now we got a lot of haze and so on. I still grow LA Confidential and Trainwreck and a cross of them both with some Jack Herer thrown in for photos.

LOL! Afghan Black Tiger Seeds! Pretty funny!
