What’s up with this? Yellow and brown tips on new growth

They do, but you'll go thru several. There's a few decent pens out there for 50$ or less. I currently am using this one, lasts longer than the yellow ones, provided you care for it correctly. PH pens are, for most of us, a tool that can't be done without to hit the big #s. Getting to the end of a grow with some smoke can be done without a pen. Getting to the end with smoke that will be the envy of all who partake in its sparkly goodness requires an added effort and usually an added expense.

The strips will work, as will the drops. Not as accurate as the pen, but better than a guess.

I like the look of that pen. I can get it for under 50. Do you do the 3 solution calibration so I will need 3 different solutions? Storage solution as well?

It'll come with 3 powder mixes, a 4.0 a 6.86 and a 9. I calibrate all 3, and store the mixtures in small glass canning jars so I can use repeatedly. I use the 4.0 as the storage solution, a few drops in the cup keep the sponge moistened. (Slightly acidic 4.0 helps to keep calcium buildup down).

The top dressing did this, a bit too much/hot,... even organics can be overdone, and a for in-pot pH, tha still needs to be monitored especially now that this hot dressing has happened,... If it get much worse, you may have to scrape the surface free of that dressing and water heavily with inoculants... the 'crobes can help take up the excess and cycle the release more gradually,...
Look into getting a soil pH probe, something decent, not a cheap one since they plain suck! The Accurate 8 is a good unit,.....
