Wassup guys one of my jars is a little around 77% RH so ill let that dry more :bong:

the other jar of purple kush that was chopped a day earlier is sitting comfortably in the jar at 64% (let meter sit in jar all night so i know its accurate)

So i understand based on the FD curing chart that im in the 60-65 range which is the curing range. just curious cause i like understanding whats going on..whats happening to my buds right now? If i let it sit in this 64% RH for a few weeks should i expect better taste and smell compared to if i just took a bud out now? cause i smoked a taste sample last night, it got me high but didnt really have a taste :toke:

just curious how the "curing" makes it more potent and taste/smell better :D

https://www.autoflower.org/f23/ This should help you. All I know is when it sits in the jar it looses the green clorophil that gives it that fresh hay smell when new.Once the drying and curing period is done and the green is gone the main smell of the thc and other chemical compounds stays in and that is when you get your best smell and best tasting bud.It also mellows the taste when all the non essential compounds have dissipated and the bud is fully cured.

thanks namvet u always answer all my questions lol appreciate it man, honestly i just smoked a blunt of it after just sitting in the jar for a night and i can get that fruity taste a little already that i wasnt getting last night :smokebuds:

on the question of potency increase
yes to a degree
even cut from the base a bud continues to draw even in the jar
it is still pulling that last bit of stored energy even in the jar
this is why flush in some cases is important to taste depending on your specific needs it draws fresh "clear" water through stem instead of more nutrients
then when you remove the leaf durring trimming the bud then draws a cleaner burn because the residuals are not as concentrated in the stem to draw from
have you ever seen people cut the bottom larger leaf of a clone?
one reason is when theese leaf are cut they draw more moisture promoting a sponge like effect in the base where roots are wanted and it encourages the res zone moisture to be drawn up into the base instead of just living off stored energy of leaf to promote rooting
like sucking through a straw more moisture is needed so it will pull it up
hope this makes alittle sense
they will draw and take on hints of area they were cured in and ambient smells of what is drawn through
as an experiment to sorta show what i am talking about take two sponges let one soak up clear water and another draw up any sented water you choose then allow them to dry
you can probably see where i am going here but you will smell the dif:P

While on this topic dif varieties will have dif leaf densities
so depending on the leaf content after trimming will also result in the time needed for chlorophyl to break down and be used for energy
the leaf content will give less or more nutrients still in the jar so to speak depending on the trim
honestly most of the complaints about taste usually come from people not trimming close enough of the leaf when trimming and the little stem and leaf material left are what comes out harsher and blacker ashes because they aren't finished being used up the stored energy

does decarboxylating happen when being cured? and just simply happen over time..or does heat have to be applied? :bong:

I'm pretty sure heat has to be applied for that to occur. :D

When doing some research i came across an article that says..

"Research suggests THCA has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects but does not produce the psychoactive effect that make you feel high. This high is from the cannabinoid THC, of which little if any is found when cannabis is growing or recently harvested."

"Decarboxylation is a chemical reaction that releases carbon dioxide (CO2). This means a chemical reaction takes place in which carboxylic acids loose a carbon atom from a carbon chain. This process converts THCA to THC, the much loved compound with many medicinal and psychoactive effects. When the cannabis drys, it very very slowly begins to decarboxylate and converts THCA to THC".

So if someones takes a "test sample" from their recently harvested plant and does a smoke report, will the bud they are smoking not be as potent compared to if they let it dry out then cured for a few weeks..:bong:

If not then how does curing increase potency if its not from decarboxylation? :smokebuds:
