As the title suggests, I don't know what people mean by bleach and it's really bugging me. I'm looking for non-flammable disinfectants and where there's talk about disinfecting and sterilizing there's always talk about isopropyl alcohol and bleach.

At first I thought it's hydrogen peroxide. Then I read somewhere bleach smells.
- Chlorine?

Help a retard out? :roflcry:

Laundry liquid bleach like Chlorox. Usually 9 parts water to one part bleach to kill viruses, fungi, molds, and bacteria. It does produce chlorine gas which can scar your lungs, so have plenty of air flow and a mask if you use a lot. And watch out if you use aluminum with chlorine.

The term Bleach comes from the ability to bleach clothes to a much lighter shade of colour.

Oh boy lol. "Bleach" is the generic name for the original laundry / cleaning agent called Clorox Bleach, based on chlorine yes. :) The odors are indeed strong, you'll want ventilation. An off-brand 1 gallon jug is fine and will just cost a couple dollars / euros. It does need to be watered down when used for disinfectant, do not use it straight up lol, and do wear gloves. :)

Salutations,

Under the context "bleach" sounds somewhate reminescent of "bomb", as in ozone generator, euh... Or maybe "colloidal silver" (?)...

Good day, have fun! :peace:

Alright, thanks everyone! We have something like that here but it's not (commonly at least) used as disinfectant and I've only ever seen it being used for cleaning toilets and stuff.
The more you know :Gold: lol

If you don't have plain bleach where you are, that's totally okay. You can use straight up Isopropyl Alcohol to wipe things down as disinfectant and will work fine, and you can use that without gloves and killing your nose too lol. They also make specific disinfectant spray, originally called "Lysol", but could have a different name where you are. Even super concentrated lemon juice can do okay as a disinfectant, but this is tough on the hands.

More specifically Bleach is the common term for Sodium Hypochlorite mixed/diluted with water.

OK, so I hear bleach is bad, because bla bla bla, and hydrogen peroxide is not good to use, because of the negatives such as killing good bacteria, and ??

Then I stumble on this...like it's the best thing since sliced bread. : http://www.simplyhydro.com/hydro.htm

Opinions please.

This is a pretty tough nut to crack for me because I need something I can use to sterilize things in a glove box while making spore syringes out of a print. My budget isn't big so I cannot afford a dedicated carbon filtering system for the glove box which means I cannot afford to have air exchange. But I think I do need to flame sterilize the needle before using it, which I cannot do inside the glove box if using flammable disinfectants but it also cannot be done outside the box because I'd have to open the box to get put the syringe inside, opening another route contaminants.

I cannot wet the spore print at all and no spore killing fumes must touch it. I'll only really need 1/4 of the print but I decided I'd use half of it to make two syringes. In any case the print must remain reusable.
It's a real pain in the ass to get a print what with my paranoia and all that so I really don't want to screw up.

Ideas?

Hydrogen peroxide is god-tier stuff if the application permits its use, I use it for pretty much everything!
