Indoor what is the best LED Grow light ?

GLH seems to be going through some growing pains right now. There were some issues with their new 2011 models where they are so strong that they were bleaching out leaves. They were slow to respond to the issue and left some people with a bad taste in their mouths. They also charged a 20% restocking fee on one of the people which isn't listed anywhere on their site. Needless to say, that didn't go over very well.

Did they change their angle when they increased the wattage? I have seen some guys lately going to a 45 and 60 degree led's for more penetration and the 45's can really burn pretty quick if the light is not high enough.

I saw a recent grow of a GLH vs Blackstar where it did edge the blackstar by around 10% in yield but I didnt see what model exactly it was. I do know it was a higher wattage unit than the Blackstar though but I think that was because the blackstars underdrive their LED's quite a bit but that will give them a longer life in theory for what its worth.

Far as I know they are still using 90s. For 2011 they took the 180 watt unit that I have and upped it to 290 watts. Still 3 watt leds but driving them higher I believe. One big problem was no documentation with the units. Several people naturally assumed they should be used like HPS and were setting them low, 10 or 12" above the plants and were getting bleached out leaves within a couple days. At first GLH was saying it was a nute problem because the lights were so efficient they were using nutes faster. But in the end they apparently did make some changes in the lights.

Do you have a link to that comparison grow? I'd like to take a look at it.

yah i factored in the yields when purchasing but can you honestly recoup the cost for a 10% increase in yield? Honestly anything with a variance below 20% could be conditions as well as nute schedules. Even though you feed them the "same" doesn't mean they get the "same" amount. If its not higher I wouldn't pay a shiny nickle more for the EXACT SAME GUTS.............

I remember that thread as well Scott, I'll see if I can find it. It's what made me purchase the Blackstar.. and he admitted to using the wrong models. The GLH blatantly pulled twice the electrical power. Also GLH sent him the next light up for free half way through the grow.

Got it. It was bubbleponics..

Supergravy was his name, the journal is long but read through it - it's a good read and helped me decide ultimately on my Blackstar.

(I just purchased a Blackstar 180 to run side by side with the 240 in a 2x4 tent. :D)
