Just a FYI I was taught you should water to 20% runoff to avoid salt buildup. If your running a Hempy you really want to flush out the old nutes with the new ones.

No salts. I run an organic grow. I water heavy but not to "runoff". I fold large towels and place my fabric pots on those after I water. It does pull out the water saturation from the bottoms. Again I dont have water "running" out.

That's an interesting idea. I switched from sunshine mix to coco because SS mix was staying saturated way to long. I wonder if that would have helped my problem. Do the towels wick a lot of the moisture out ?

They sure do. My "rag towels" are mostly bath sheets(very large towels) i fold them into squares I water my 5 gallon pots a gallon of 1 1/4 gallon every day. The towels end up about half wet. As you are aware a gallon of water in a 5 gallon pot produces no runoff.
