Howdy folks!

I was doing some looking at my state's work-in-progress MMJ info, and while it looks...decent, it does *not* include the ability for patients or caretakers to grow their own if they so choose. Which for someone like me who lives on an extremely small fixed income, means that it's essentially no good to me as I'll likely be priced out of the market even at dispensary prices.

This got me curious what it would cost me per oz, once I got to the point where I found a good strain and got good enough at growing it to ensure a maximum and repeatable harvest each time. What I came up with is roughly $80-90 an O, which should cover my needs for a month. Still gonna have to find room in my already slim budget for it, but considering an O of the good-good can go for $250-$320 on the street here...it's a definite improvement.

So what are you "paying" per oz? How does it compare to your local street or dispensary prices? I know for me, just having the capability to be super selective with the strain is worth a lot to me, but the cost is really the driving force behind my personal decision to start growing. I have no idea how close my actual monthly cost will be to what I estimated, but if I'm forced to pay street prices for my cannabis, I'd never be able to keep myself in meds.

Thanks!

Utilizing the sun, and maximizing bud per plant(8 photoperiod + 8 autos) for the bulk of the grow, cost per ounce for me is ridiculously low. Doing a quick tally total cost(cheap led lights,Advanced nutrient flower fertilizer, medium, seed) total cost per ounce is...ready for this? $6-7 per ounce...no shit.

You can't see me right now, which is good because I *might* be giving you the finger.

Seriously though, that's incredible and you're hella lucky. Need a garden manager, by any chance? I learn quick, and accept ramen and scissor hash as payment!

Total indoor cost using cheap(er) lights per ounce would be much, much higher. Hmm lets see..spent 400 on lghts, 150 on fertilizer(2 runs worth), $40 per month for hydro(so $100 total per run), $100 on other stuff to set up the mini cab(2 fans, roll of poly, powerbar, pots). So we are talking $850 if this was an indoor exclusive setup total. First run pulled 8oz and second run($40 per month cost only for power) pulled 9oz, so 17oz total. $50 an ounce, but with superior lights it could be much, much better, especially if a few runs are considered.

Last year was even more insane of a ratio outdoors. Then again its not like you buy lights every season either. ;)
Its alright if you are giving me the finger bud. :D Totally understand! Though it wont help for the job interview! :D

Check out quality growers and try to mimic what they do, and you will be hauling much better than $150 an ounce I promise you.

Let me see. It's not precise, obviously, but if we don't include initial setup money, which was ~20k (could've been done 50% cheaper if on a super tight budget) my main garden is doing about ~$25-30/ounce. If my goal would be to make as much money as I can, It would probably be around ~$15/ounce (different strains, less expensive nutes, RDWC). Anyway, $1/g seems reasonable after setup costs even if you're not maxing out the yield potential.

Once you get the light, if you go totally store bought mix and fertilizer you are looking at maybe $20 per plant and maybe $10 per seed. With a 75% indica and 25% sativa I can get 3oz minimum top shelf. 100 to 300 g. I have two plants and so much pot that I grow one low yielding sativa and 1 indica/sativa. I use 2 lights and paid $500 a piece for each. My electricity is not noticeable, I am already priced in as a minimum user so about $86/mo for all electricity not just pot. I make my own soil. So just the seed, 7 for under $100. One plant is not enough for me and cuts too close in not allowing for operator error or surprise city inspection which has happened to me twice (they always give you a weeks notice, and don't look in the closets where I grow but still, it costs. Two plants is safer and should be more than enough for a single user. The light is the big expense and you should buy a good one since light is everything to an auto. The more the better. I have 300 real w per plant. That is enough. Anything less is not enough for me. You can buy a 600w hid for less than $200 but I prefer the two high cost leds for my particular situation.

Nooo idea! haha but it is a really interesting question..

See my running costs arre huge because i'm running so many things , 3 circulation fans a chiller, water pump, air pumps 600w hps light ,2 extraction fans. so its a massive power bill. however because its 4 site Rdwc in 20ltr res's its going to mean a big big output in yield.

So its an interesting question in the way that ,if matched to a say .. A small soil indoor grow with a led light and passive intake..
which would actually be cheaper in the long run? yield vs running cost? to be honest i really dont know ..:crying:

or an easier way to put it to understand better ,If i ran multiples of the small tent indoor grows i mentioned

making up the running costs of the Rdwc at the end of the runs which yield vs running cost is higher? or maybe i just confused the sht out of myself!

either way as @912GreenSkell hit on ,even an indoor or outdoor grow can be extremely cheap if solar power is included (even the use of small solar panel kits purchasable on ebay can be used for indoor grows or perhaps the property itself runs solar panels ) and one was aiming to be eco friendly it can be done for pocket change especially over a period of years or buying in bulk (nutes etc).

I used to grow outdoor in topsoil for many many years. my costs? just the beans. :)

I've no clue of the total. Not sure I want to add it all up. Geez, I have at least three led lights that are collecting dust right now. I always seem to be buying something for my grows, so my first order of business is to attempt to stop upgrading led lights, which I run through a voltage regulator. All inline fans run through Variac controllers. Cha-ching.
