I started my auto's in 3 gallon pots since I hear they don't like transplanting. My water schedule idea was to water the whole pot 1st, wait for it to start drying out on the top, then water only the middle where the seedling is, then wait a few days till the outer pot felt really dry and then water the whole thing till runoff. Seem like a good idea?

That's all pretty normal....

Now if you want to talk about starting seedlings in 15 gallon pots. .we might get some neat ideas
Or 20 gallon :smoking:... how's your grow going TomAuto?

I started in a 20 gallon pot. It's been interesting! I'm currently on week 4. I've only ever soaked my pot once. Which was when it was filled and before I put in my seed. Since then I've done small amounts of water in gradually larger rings around her as she needs it.

I fully soak the pot germinate the seed straight into the soil for the first week or so I will spray the top of the soil by the seedling with jus Phed water but that's jus for the seedling stage then I don't water the first time till the pot completely dries out and then I jus only water when the pots feel light and I use 5 gallon smart pots and water with almost 2 gallons of water well like 1.75 gallons it works for me not over watered or underwatered

I don't water at all for upto 10 days after planting in fresh soil from the bag.

I use 3gal/15L airpots

The Root Riot cubes are moist obviously and the plagron lightmix is damp so I don't see the point.

I've never lost a seedling, and the only thing that's killed my plants is when my Rhino fan dropped straight on top of them

I plant 1 seed in a #10 airpot. I fill the airpot up 3/4 way or less and then slope the soil all around the sides creating a well or crater about 8 inches in dia dead center. Then I use my Hudson 3 gallon sprayer to completely saturate the well or only the 6 or so inches in the center of the container until water runs out the bottom. I don't water the sides or the slope. Then I take a 6 inch traditional terra cotta pot and turn it upside down and dig it into the soil a little bit and remove. That should make a nice little moat and a clear target for the seed. Makes it easy to look for the sprout because I know exeactly where it is in that big pot and keeps the seed temp stable and protected from witertime drafts. Then I take a dry seed directly from the airtight container in the crisper drawer in the fridge and plant it knuckle deep right in the middle of the marked circle and turn the clay pot back and place it back over the planted seed. That helps keep the seed soil temp stable and protects from wintertime drafts. Then I wait for the sprout. While I am waiting I will spray the clay pot and also the slopes (gently so they all don't come crashing down) I created on the sides to keep as much humidity as possible.
Now, to get to your watering question. Once seed has sprouted I remove terra cotta pot and then use my 3 gallon Hudson Sprayer (best $30 I ever spent) and simply lightly spray only that six inch area with the little moat created by the terra cotta pot. The soil beneath the seed should already be pretty wet, so I only spray enough to keep the top of the soil from drying out ususally twice or 3 times a day. I never water the sides. Kind of sad to see all that good organic soil go dry but it will revive later.
So, to conclude, in a big pot, just think of it as a little 6 inch pot and that's all you water, and always water with a sprayer until the plant is too big for a sprayer to be practical. And those leaves really like being sprayed with water even under a bright light. No magnifying affect like with the sun.

Put soill mix in pot. Put in bean one pinky knuckle deep. Lightly cover with soul. Use a ml dropper to apply about 20ml (2oz) over where the seedling was planted, cover with a 500ml water bottle or clear solo cup. If you see the top layer get dry give it a mist. Water about 15-20ml daily depending on your environment. Just use un-PhD tap water. Give first feed around day ten, depending on your soil, and use 250-500ml...feel pots before and after this watering. When they dry out and feel light water again. Around day 21-25 you should be able to just give a liter at a time, eventually this will increase to once a day or native even once every18 hours, but u really don't need to water until run off of your feeding lightly. I feed every time, lightly flush around day 30 and switch to bloom nutrients
