I am growing some BlackBerry Autos organically in living soil for the first time. I noticed after two weeks they were only 5 inches tall and a little slow going. they are green and look healthy with the exception of a little twisting on the main leafs. I didn't think much of it until I went probing around in the soil.

That's when I found these white pests crawling around and some of them seem to move very fast and possibly jump. At first I thought fungus gnats but I have had an exposed tub of soil "cooking" in this room for a month now and I maybe catch 1 or 2 gnats a week.

Im still not sure if they are feeding on my plants roots either because the tub that I have "cooking" is completely infested too and there is no living roots over there. they also go deep, I moved the soil down about 8 inches and still saw them crawling around. any experience in this group with what they are and how to treat them?

I am open to using non organic pesticide as long as it doesn't kill my living soil or can be re-amended.

If they jump, they are Springtails (google them),.. harmless detritus feeders, but in huge numbers they can be messy and annoying... most any garden safe bug spray will take them down, otherwise, they are ubiquitous and endless in numbers outside!

You will need to get photos. Do they have round abdomens or pointed? Do they have tailpipes?
