From early on, equatorial plants were by far my go to. Since I've returned to the AF/Day-Neutral world, I figured I'd check how well these types are represented.

I've had great experiences with Haze hybrids in the past. C99, Super Lemon Haze, SSH, Amnesia, among others.

What similarities do they share with their photoperiod counterpart? How well do these place against other non-autoflowering genetics from the Haze-hybrid family?

Let's grow them out and see what these have to offer!

It's readily apparent how different they are. The phenotypes are varied and quite distinct among themselves (same as their Mango Haze parental line, being a 3-way cross). Don't expect a laser-cut canopy level.

MS 1, the runt of the group:
-Started out wrinkled and lacking fitness.
-Thrown some bananas early on, from axial flowers near the internodes.
-Picked up the pace around mid flowering.
-Tangy, musky with some sourness to it.

MS 2, the earliest:
-Straight hash smell. Low odor.
-Trichomes fall easily when handled.
-Was already showing signs of being closer to chemical maturity since day 50.
-Great structure and growth pattern, nice bract-to-leaf-ratio.

Day 55:

MS 3, bush:
-Remarkably sweet and candy type of aroma. Similar to bubblegum.
-Dense floral clusters. Extremely oily and sticky to touch.
-Reminiscent of NL5 phenotypes
-Could be harvested by day 60.

MS 4, balanced hybrid expression of all parental lines:
-The most productive and longer flowering. Should reach day 80.
-Balanced and desirable structure, with lateral branches closing in on the main cola height by 75%. -Strong self-supporting branches with impressive flower development.
-Sour, lemon, woodsy with some hints of herbal/licorice/black tea aromas.
-Demanding on both nutrients and water (3L every 2 days, meters reads 1.5mS from 1mL Biobizz grow 4mL BAC flora)

Take into account that I made several mistakes during their development that hindered their full potential: From LED fixture being too close early on, too far, heavy soil too soon, depletion of P during critical phase, etc. Nevertheless these aren't as easy as most genetics out there, and while manageable they can be particularly picky.

I've grown them on 20L fabric pots, using a modified Coot's mix organic type soil. 24/0 during the first 50 days and 20/4 since then, using a Lumatek ATTIS 200w at 100% and 80% respectively.

They have been vigorous and with optimized conditions they could have turned out pretty monstrous.

The only downer was not hitting any Mango smelling phenos. They aren't too exciting on that department, but it can be my disappointment contrasting.

Hope you like them, I'll keep you updated on how they perform.

In the advent of something special being enclosed on these Mango Smile, I've select two plants as seedmothers and reversed another male with the purpose of producing seeds for future explorations.

Pollinated lower branches on the main ones (1,2,3,4) and fully pollinated these bonsai ones, leaving only a branch unpollinated for sampling purposes.

Hey AFN,

Plenty of time has passed since my last update. Meanwhile I've had the chance to sample these four females, I'll be leaving you a report bellow as well as a few pics.

Regarding how the cycle went, they really disliked the media for a while, and specially when flowering started to kick in, but finally I managed to dial them in. The first portion (around 30%) of their 30L fabric pots was Biobizz Light mix and the remainder was Coot's mix done from scratch, a recipe I've tried before with success.

I suspect that the growing media was quite high on micronutrients, and when they ran out of phosphorus they acidified the rhizosphere making them much more available and subsequently making it worse for them. But who knows really, it was quite a strange event.

As for my review on this variety, having grown a small sample of them (7 in total, 4 on the main tent, 2 as seeds mothers and 1 as reversed pollen donor):
I can say they didn't turn out bad overall, but I'm still kind of disappointed.
Prior to my previous grow (MBAP x 3BOG, Double Grape, Skywalker, Forum Stomper, etc), I hadn't grown AF genetics in years, since 2012 or earlier, and I was quite surprised with how they turned out.
Due to that, I had then high expectations for these Mango Smile, being a lover of equatorial/"sativa" plants and having had past experiences with modern Haze hybrids (Super Silver Haze, Super Lemon Haze, Amnesia, etc) on my visits to Amsterdam and not only. Overall I felt they were lackluster and didn't deliver the quality or traits that I was expecting and felt somewhat like an unfinished project more than anything.

Mango Smile 1: Developed one or two preflowers on lower internodes, which went unnoticed for no more than a couple days. The pollen was very live and managed to pollinate most of them, but not ubiquitously. Fortunately is the more fragrant and projecting one, having a sweet orange mixed with soil and woods type of scent. It tastes good on the Mighty though the effects can be quite lackluster, in both quantity and quality. After a while it only adds up as weight instead of bliss and starts to feel boring soon. Funny structure, somewhat ruderal type mixed in with Haze.

Mango Smile 2: Almost odorless during growth, had a faint pine/hashy smell. It tastes surprisingly good, though not exceptional. Floral and something weird(metallic?), but enjoyable. The effects are the best among all siblings, being the only that really feels more like an Haze variant. It's giggly weed and is fun and sociable. It stacks and the comedown, unfortunately, can be a bit too numbing.

Mango Smile 3: Awful. Short and squat, smelling nice and sweet during flowering, but nothing remained on the finished product. Doesn't feel good, doesn't taste good. Didn't take proper pics of this one.

Mango Smile 4: A superior producer with an awesome structure and vigor. Hybrid feel and average potency. It's nice, specially if you like keeping scale records, though it only excels there. Piney, resinous but low odor.

To finish, I can at least say they were well productive, #4 being the winner nearing the 130g mark.

Please keep in mind these weren't grown to full potential and it's a limited sample, just sharing my experience. Luckily I've produced numerous "F2" seeds from two seed mothers too ripe to properly sample, and sometime in the future I will revisit this variety. Hopefully to find something more suiting.

Hope my report to be helpful for someone wanting to try the variety, sometimes it's just as it goes. Luck wasn't too much on my side this time, in regards to phenotypes.

Great details in here, and bummer…I picked up Mango Smile and Marley’s Grin (SODK x MS) as I wanted some winner autos with haze lineage to try a Sat dom photo to auto breeding. I may get lucky but…

Hi there,

Don't let my experience demotivate you. There should be a lot of variability in these. I've seen a few peeps raving about these, though mine felt lacking.

Besides a few HbbHz I also acquired at around same time, I ended up getting a few freebies, namely Ghost Roof and Bubblegum Smile. Perhaps there I'll find more blissful stash in auto form. Either that or through the "F2" Mango Smile.

Though I'll be running mostly photos for a while.

Have fun
