twenty20 TWENTY20 MENDOCINO Purple Biscauto - showcase

It’s the best, isn’t it? For me, I place the seeds directly into my soil. So that after a few days when they pop up it’s always like WooHoo!!! We got us a live one here!!!
That's the nature way 3-W's :doc1::wiz: .... I give mine scratching on the seams sometimes (not just the case itself) if they are old, or large seeds (makes a big diff'!)... I soak to sinking (half day or so) then sow into starter cups!
Warmth is huge, upper 70's low 80's... 3-4 days and they are up
I use a weak soak soln. of pure water + fulvic acid, Si, and kelp, I mean 1-2 drops here in a few oz's; works great with older stubborn seeds!

What a bummer. 24 hrs in water, 6 days in coffee filter:

Bummer. Keep us posted. If you can't get the others to germ we'll shoot you more and and insulate them. Maybe I'll throw in an ice pack. Don't worry! We'll make sure you don't get left behind!

I just took a peak at the garden and there was girl number two starting to show!
So we are 100% germ so far!

The Canna gods are smiling upon me it seems. I like using ProMix BX for growing autos and in my limited experience that medium seems to work best. Last year I started to have a problem buying Pro Mix anywhere within an hour from me and the price went from $27.00 for a 3.8 cuft bag to $56.00 for a 3.8 cuft. bag. Being retired and on a fixed income I am not going to pay that ridiculous price for what amounts to peat moss, perlite, a little lime, and a dash of mycorrhizae. So I started making my own. Getting ready for my very first ever Grow & Show I wanted to make a fresh batch of homemade Pro Mix and I did. My plan was to mix up 20 gallons total. So I added the ingredients to make 10 gallons, mixed it all up thoroughly and then added the lime and mycorrhizae to make the second 10 gallons. BUT at that point I got distracted and when I came back to what I was going I added enough perlite and peat moss to make 5 gallons. You experienced guy will know right away the problem I would have. I wet the medium till it was very moist but not sopping wet and put the lid on it. Yesterday it was 12 days since I mixed it up and it was looking good. I dug down about 5 inches and took a 10 gram sample and mixed it with 15ml of distilled water. For 90 minutes I stirred it up at least a dozen times. After 90 minutes I tested the pH of the slurry and it was at 7.3 when I was looking for it to be around 5.8 I am so glad I checked that before I started growing in it. The plants would have grown sure, but there would be no vigor, they would be very small plants.

So I added another 5 gallons of peat moss and more perlite and mixed it all up real well again. I will check the pH next Sunday to see where I'm at. When I get it down to 5.8 or very close it will be launch time for the Go-Go and Purple Biscauto

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

@Sour D if you've still got those two seeds can I suggest two things to try before pitching them. After you let them set on a paper towel for a couple days scarify them really well. I do it one of two ways, the first is with a cigar plastic tube with a piece of 120 grit sandpaper rolled up to make a tube (abrasive facing in) which I slide down into the plastic tube. I use this when I want to scarify a number of seeds. Second method is using a Nexium OTC bottle in which I have white playground sand. I drop in the seed or seeds and shake shake shake till my arms hurt. That tiger striping on those two seeds will be gone if you've scarified them well enough.

Once you've done that part stick both seeds in the fridge for two or three days and then back to the soak for them. Keep the water of the soak warm. If the seeds haven't been soaked yet, as in new out of the packet I put them in the freezer for a couple days then into the soak. The cold of the freezer or fridge simulates winter. Removing them and putting them in the tepid water simulates spring. Not saying those two will sprout but sometimes fresh seeds can be a little trickier to get to germinate.

Interesting . Hadn't thought of the sandpaper after the fact. Got nothing too lose. Thanks

Thank you!. A bit of an update: This morning there are 2 white nubs appearing. Keeping fingers crossed. Maybe they just want to hit the dirt.
I'm still gonna pop the rest as I have a couple spaces opening soon.

Morning,
We have two girls up and looking good. Bothe the Purple Biscuit Auto and the Glue sniffer have shown themselves. I’ll get some pictures tonight.
