New Grower transferring, tiering up advice

Hi guys
Started my grow last week, they've been coming along nicely
I've just transferred one into a larger pot, it was messy to say the least.
The roots totally took me by surprise, and unfortunately some broke off in the move, as slightly root bound.
I have another I want to do, any ideas how to get the soil more firm at thus stage? Will I be doing as much damage if I compress the soil from the top?
Also do you think I should get her straight under the light or leave in the dark overnight?

hi namvet, yeah, the 2nd went far better thankfully, think i just paniced when transferring the first plant, especially when i saw so much root.
time will tell how well she will do, she looked okayish this morning, so i'm keeping positive
i also ordered some biobizz root juice which i'm hoping might add to her healing
