New to growing. Will be getting a Mars Hydro 2 by 2 tent. For light was going with the Optic 1 XL but not much price difference for the Optic 2. So is the Optic 2 Gen 3 to much light for a 2 by 2. Then need to figure out air and carbon filter. Was also looking at the Mars Hydro cob. But more and better reviews on the Optic 1 XL cob.

The optic2 looks like a good 200 watt light, which is probably more power than the approximate 150 watts you need.
LEDs are getting better all the time, and some of the new ones, like the one below, put out lots of light power with less electrical power.
I've seen several complimentary posts about NiemiLED.
If I had your setup I'd get this 130 watt for $180:

It puts out an astounding 3.03 microjules per watt.

thank you for your response. I’ll look into that

More wattage nvr hurts u can always dim them if needed then turn em up as they grow

Keep in mind that tent isn't actually a 2x2. It's 2.3x2.3(70cm x 70cm) so it's slightly bigger. As for the comparison between the Mars COB and the Optic 1 XL, they have about the same efficiency but the Mars one has extra blue and reds on it and the spectrum is very oriented towards the flowering spectrum. The Optic 1XL is a straight 3500K spectrum, no extra reds or blues. That's the biggest difference.

Don't buy the Optic 2 for your tent, it's too powerful. What i am talking about is the tent height, around 5 feet. The Optic 2 ran on full blast will burn your plants at 18 inches(over 1100 PAR), it's that powerful. You have to run it at around 24 inches if not higher. As for dimming it down, that won't really work the way you think it will...

Dimmability: 3 possible settings

Channel A: Just the COBs (Pulls 120 Watts)

Channel B: Just the Bloom Enhancer LED array of 5w LEDs (Pulls 100 Watts)

Channel A & B: The COBs & Bloom Enhancer LED Array (Pulls 205 watts)

So if you turn off channel B, which you'd have to do for that short tent, you'd end up with straight COB at 120 watts or in other words the Optic 1 XL would do the same job and do it better(it's more efficient, got a better Cree chip). If you want to go for the Optic 2 then get a taller tent.

My 2 cents.

when it come to working out how much LED light I need a rule of thumb I follow is 35w to 50w per square foot... I build my own lights so this rule of thumb really only relates to COB's / QB's / White full spectrum LED's... not "Burple" lights.

Tuff decision between the optic 2 and the Mars cob, both are about on par with each other... but I think the optic will be pip the mars

Personal for that price of the optic 2 I would sack off both company's.... forget about them and start to look at HLG products... for the price of the optic 2 you could get you self a 150w single HLG QB or a 240w QB diy kit and they the best of the best... just one QB will out perform the mars and a optic 01 by a long shot

if you want to see how QB's work come over to my journal @Rickstanvme and I can give you the walk through... I used to grow with Mars, but I gave that bad habbit up.

I would just get the TS-1000 for that tent personally. 130 bucks and it's perfect for that tent. QB technology, great 3500K spectrum, good efficiency but most of all cheaper and more powerful then both the Mars COB or Optic 1XL. That's your best bang for the buck option. Or if you don't mind some DIY and spending a bit more for top efficiency then the HLG 135W v2 Rspec is the way to go. The only COB that will match that in efficiency is the Migro 100 but compared to the HLG board it costs more and lacks the extra reds.
