Grow Mediums Thoughts on self-watering pots?

Good plan IMO, but use perlite instead. often bottom watered post will stay moist right to the surface and is the sand is wet it won't stop them. The perlite because of it's larger granules, will stay dry. Top with some DE ( Diatomaceous Earth ).
Thanks, that's what I will try on next grow. Now I have to choose what type of pots to use.

I believe this was 94 days seed to chop in a three gallon pot of organic soil. Nothing but water, no top drsssings, I don't do teas. I'd say like all things in gardening, it depends...

6.6 gal............. read a 7 gal was about minimum to use for straight soil/plain water grow.

true, think I can go with original plan of the midsize then.

The key is to not be afraid to make a fairly hot soil. Using slow release, dry organic nutrients, I've been using Epsoma Garden Tone I doubled what you'd normally use, in a well composted base soil. I didn't let it cook either, I figured being well blended into the soil it would have little effect and it's seems I may have been right. This plant was one of those perfect grows, I did nothing to her at all, just enjoyed watching her grow!

I just bought a 10 pack of grobuckets and will be getting them ready in next couple of months. It’s an insert that turns a 5 or 7 gallon bucket into a SIP. I’m also doing a central irrigation system kind of like auto pots but a little less expensive.

This is almost exactly what I’m doing. This guy is awesome. When I’m done I’ll take pictures of the setup, but it won’t be nearly as detailed as this guys.
