I have a good amount of seeds from past grows. how should I go about using them? I invest money in soil and all, so I want a quality seed so I don't waste my time and money. I think that's my main concern. I want to buy top shelf seeds, but I have a lot of my own. so theres a chance to save money. your thoughts? is there a way to pic a good seed from my collection?

You need a pheno hunt pal. Get yourself prepped to germinate as many as reasonable in a given time. You will have them in small containers i.e. party cups, and within the first few weeks of veg, you will start to see which ones you like. Morphological variations will become apparent over time, some stem and leaf rubs will give you insight into terpene profiles.
You will find a lad and lass you enjoy and maybe continue. This next generation can then be crossed to isolate more traits. A couple of generations in you will start seeing your own variety's phenotypic differences.
That's one way to go about it.

how early can I identify the males? I kinda feel like I ended up with seed plants because I didn't remove the sac plant soon enough. is that thought right? I found the sac plant early and killed it. maybe they was male seeds? that produced the seed plant? im confused.
