The girls broke shell and both appeared to be slightly(!?) mutant and Jorilla was in two minds whether to continue with them or start afresh
Both options have been decided upon: continuing with the original girls to see how they turn out and also pop some fresh ladies when seeds available/arrived.
The initial girls germinated really quickly and shed seed coat quickly and easily as well.. they are both a little leggy at the moment however I believe this will mean they are both going to be statuesque high yielders...
The girls have been grown on for the first week under a T5 unit with Colour 860 tubes and have come along ok. The girl on the right is showing variegated leaf patterning which will probably disappear as she grows..
Both girls are a little leggy but exactly the same leggy which is good
The roots have developed well and the girls are now ready to be transplanted into the grodan cubes which have been soaked for several days in a solution of Dutch Pro Autoflower Hydro Grow at EC 0.8 with Growth Technology liquid silicon at 0.5ml per litre, Dutch Pro Take Root at 1ml per litre and set to a pH of 5 (most would say a little low, the rockwool does have a tendency to raise the pH though).
Time for transplanting on... This really is a fool proof method for getting roots in the reservoir quickly... especially for novices... no waiting around for that single tap root to emerge... and wandering if it's going to!
This is the kind of root system you can expect (this is from a Miss Polar Lights - discolouration is due to beneficial tea innoculation and from not having water for a couple of days due to harvesting). The beneficial tea innoculation allows Mr Jorilla higher reservoir temperatures without the problem of slimes developing...
Safely transplanted on into the buckets...
This is the variegated lady, she is showing some margin curl due to temperature and humidity sensitivity and also some cal/mag spotting. This also occurred with one of the Polar Light ladies I believe due to using silicon in the rockwool cube soaking water.... Mr Jorilla must stop using the silicon so early...
The other lady is less sensitive she is showing a little bit of inter-veinal chlorosis again probably down to the use of silicon so soon...
