BRF cakes are nice and easy
IF you're an american, you can get a small but worthwhile pressure cooker for about 20-30 usd. 6qt-8qt on amazon/wallyworld, which while not enough for a lot should give you enough to run a few jars at a time.
the one you wanna look for is this one:
Presto 01282 8-Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker
you flowerize your rice, add in the verm and water, add the poly fill instead of tyvek (tyvek is too expensive, but you can always use rv silicon, but its more expensive) cover the lid with tin foil and pressure cook for 90 minutes. from personal experience your success rate goes up through the roof. i went from 74% contamination rate without a pc to a less than 1% contam rate from spore with sterilized grain.
if you end up doing bulk substrates then you simply want rye berries or grass seed and replace the brf mix with it.
as i said, it will take me a few days to get everything because im going to try to do it from scratch. but basically, the hardest part is over. next time try doing a transfer of some of your fully colonized substrate with a sterilized spoon (use a lighter) then open the lid, chop out a spoon full and put it in the container thats ready to go.
And to be frank, i find it easier to do mycobags because its all one controlled environment and its what the guys in amsterdam do.
