Greetings AFN!

First grow ever with Super Silver Haze Auto via www.marijuana-seeds.nl/

I plan on posting once a week to document growth and progress and to ask (perhaps even answer) questions as they arise.

This is Silvia II on day 4 since sprouting out of soil. I took this picture yesterday.

Silvia II (RIP Silvia I ) germinated a week ago on July 12. I used a moist napkin in a sandwich bag, placed that in a cardboard box, and set it under my laptop for 2 days.

After her taproot emerged she was planted in a 5 gallon pot containing:

2 parts Kellogg's Patio Plus
2 parts Roger's Gardens soil
1 part perlite

I mixed together all the ingredients, thoroughly watered the medium, let it drain for 10 minutes, and then loosened the soil with a fork. I dug a hole with my pinky, planted the taproot facing up, covered her with soil, and put her out in the sun.

2 days later (July 14) she popped out of the ground!

At first I covered her with a vented microwave cover to act as a humidity dome, but removed it because I didn't want to deal with hardening off.

I've been misting her daily to help keep the leaves clean but I should probably do this earlier in the morning; I think she may be sun scalding! I put a drop of SuperThrive in the mist water and sprayed the soil to help the roots develop, but haven't since.

Today the soil was a bit dry so I watered her with a mixture of 1 part urine to 10 parts water. This might be a little early to be feeding nitrogen, but she seemed fine at the end of the day.

I wish I had a better spot to put her... She only gets about 9 hours of direct sunlight a day due to surrounding trees.

I'm gonna go get drunk now, bye!

I have been growing SSH by MNS (the original) for the last few years and only just recently replaced it with Mango Haze (the same, but different). I'm very curious as to how these will go. I plan on creating my own Autoflowering Mango Haze from my favorite clones.

Welcome to AFN and the New Growers forum. No, I wouldn't be feeding your seedling yet. Autos tend to be a bit nutrient sensitive and usually don't require any feeding until around 12 - 15 days or longer, depending on your soil. I also wouldn't recommend using urine. The strength of the urine will vary and it's impossible to know what strength you are giving. I would invest in some good vegetative and flowering nutrients specifically developed for growing weed. Lots of good brands out there. Fox Farms Grow Big and Tiger Bloom are a good ones to start with.

Hi there Moose! Good luck with breeding! I think I'm gonna try my hand at it since Silvia II is actually a dude... =/

Hello Muddy, thanks it's great to be here! I'll follow your advice with feeding around week 2 on my next grow as Silvia II turned out to be male... And although the strength of urine does vary, I've been checking to make sure his leaves aren't too yellow/green according to this chart I found online:

I figure why buy vegging nutes when I've already got a free supply? (:
However I will purchase some flowering nutrients to help with bud production.

Sorry I haven't posted in the past few weeks, been busy with other matters... anyhow, around Day 20 Silvia showed sex//preflowers//stipules or whatever and now she has balls.

Womp. So much for being feminized. But I suppose this is a mixed blessing... now I can save his pollen and create seeds.

I was trying to find out why she turned out male and have learned that the sex of marijuana plants is determined not only by genetics but environmental triggers! Even though he's feminized, factors such as heat, stress, humidity, NPK values, etc can affect the phenotypic expression. (source)

I think factors contributing to him turning male in my grow include heat, stress, and humidity.

First of all, it's fucking hot in California. Coupled with the fact that I've been placing him in direct sunlight in a black pot since he was a seedling.... too hot!
Stress... I FOUND CATERPILLARS EATING ONE OF HIS LEAVES... :(
And humidity. I suppose I should have used that humidity dome.. or maybe keep the soil moist at all times (not letting the top 2 inches dry out)

So right now I'm germinating another seed. This time I'll be getting a light-colored pot to reflect rather than absorb light, and therefore reduce heat. I'll be keeping her in a shadier part of the garden until she's old enough to handle direct sunlight. I'll utilize the humidity dome and keep the soil moist, and make sure no bugs get to her..

In the meantime I'm gonna continue growing my boy and save his pollen to make some more seeds later. (:
