I need a straight forward person who can simply tell me WHAT IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST SOIL TO USE... I need you to dumb it down for me please.

STRAIGHT FORWARD

Hey AutoWanKenobi. I´ll be as straight forward as possible for you (great name by the way!)

No one can tell you what the absolute best soil to use is as there is no one correct answer. Some people like to build their own soils that will only require water for the whole grow, others prefer an inert medium like coco where you have absolute control over exactly what your plant receives, and yet more people (me included) like to buy bags of quality soil from grow shops or garden centres and add things like perlite to them to improve aeration and drainage.

If there was one absolute best soil to use, then everyone would be using it. The best thing to do is to work out what you have available to you easily, and how best to utilise that, for example I can get biobizz light soil easily so thats what I use. I add about 30% extra perlite to it, and if I´m feeling fancy maybe some worm castings too, and it works great. Its not necessarily better than other soils, but it works well for me, and thats what you need to do is find out what will work well for you!

If you can list some soils that you can get hold of easily, then maybe people can give you pros and cons of each one?

Drainage is very important, good drainage = good oxygenation. Perlite is great for drainage and another you can use is corse river sand which is a cheaper option and will also add minerals to your mix. Alwaysauto is on the money...."No one can tell you what the absolute best soil to use is as there is no one correct answer". And yes great name ! once your an experienced guru dude, people can say to you "Help me AutoWanKenobi, your my only hope" lol

well answer a few questions first if ya will.organic or chems?which one you growing.Ease of growing and less issues is a TLO mix hands down.organics soup styled and tea feeds are a bit more involved but a less mixed soil certainly.but chem grows there is alot of room for errors that happen a LOT starting out and even still the colors and quality aint there but youll use a very lightly mixed soil with excellent drainage.organic soup a slightly heavier soil and even heavier for a TLO mix.if you live in the states you can slap a good soil together for roughly the cost 30-35 LBs of castings,a bag of Dr Earths soil 1.5 CF and a brick of spagnum peat moss and that 5 LB pack a tote and some general organics cal mag n i promise ya itll be really easy.but ya gotta buy a 20 dollor pack from tlo soils n thats it.most simple method for beginners n thats how i got my start too for ful lon organics.

chems a bag of desired soil..lime powder(dolomite lime),some perlite and a cpl basic add ons n thats as involved as most chem grows need to be.so ya got choise to make before anyone can really answer your question well enough imho.:Sharing One:

5-6 gallons of those things and voila..a bag of black gold seedling mix and a starter feed from a Tea of use big bloom..easy of cake..?ok wait piece of pie errr ok fine its really easy lol:Sharing One:

thanks so much, I've been looking at biobizz for the past two nights and I think I'm gonna go with it's light mix along with the brand of nutes they supply. I figured if I'm gonna make errors it's best if I just dive in and figure things out while I'm doing my grow. But since I'm gonna use the same brand as you I figure I'll take the advice listed

And thanks for the name complement, when I got on here it just came to me hahah. :tiphat:

Does anyone else add extra perlite to biobizz light mix? I use it in air pots. Would you advise me to do the same?
