Indoor Soil Ph Troubles

Welcome, fullauto! I had similar problems with low pH on my first grow, so you're not alone. You can raise the pH by adding some hydrated lime to your water - maybe a tablespoon per gallon. Once you've got your runoff in the right range you could top dress the soil with some dolomite lime to keep things stable.

I have to wonder if you have some other issues going on if you only got 10% of your plants to make it to two weeks. Can you tell us some more about your setup?

How many times are you watering in two weeks? For me I totally drown small sprouts in big pots so I start in smaller pots to check that. How are they dying?

I too had a low PH issue on my first grow. The soil PH was at around 6.0 or slightly under. After asking Muddy he suggested that I add 1 tsp of Hydrated Lime to 1 gallon of water.

I should add that I purged the soil of everything by running 6.5 ph'd water through my 1 gallon smart pots at the rate of 3 gallons per 1 gallon smart pot.

That fixed my issue. My next grow, I will be a little more watchful of not only the ph of my water, but the ph of my soil.

Ya, when you want to clear the salts and nutes you kinda purge the soil. You use a 3 to 1 ratio.

If you have a 1 gallong pot, run 3 gallons through and this should put the soil back to be clean and clear of everything. Check your run off to see what it ph's at.

Then the 4th gallon of water gets the tsp of hydrated lime. This stabilized my soil ph and straightened my plants out.

If your water ph is that low, you should probably get some ph up / down and carefully adjust your water to a ph of 6.3 to 6.8.

I can tell you, I have a soil PH meter and a water ph meter. If I add PH up or down, I do it the day before and I use a fish tank air pump and add air to my water as well. Always check your ph before adding your water. It sometimes fluxuates sitting overnight.

That's what I was told to do and it worked for me. I hope it helps man, good luck.

My water going in is 7.0 ph and water coming out is 5.0-5.60,actual soil ph is 4.5. I should have checked the actual soil ph before i planted,i could have limed the soil and brought it up some, guess thats why i'm a rookie lol!

I am a rookie too. But I think adding the lime to your soil will raise it to acceptable levels. I know when the ph is screwed up nutes get locked out and you begin to see signs of deficiency. Atleast that's what happened to me.

The best advise I can give you is, PM Muddy or Joe Dirt. They are the guys who really held my hand through my first grow.
