Site Work in Progress - 2018

1.5 seconds to load page 7 from page 5, in backwoods usa.
Maybe the tech in boradan's area is coded in Pikey, and it takes forever to convert it to something that can be understood haha

Gotta say I am loving the new 'similar topics' feature.
I am betting it will lead to a lot of 2 year old threads being necro'ed though ;)

I got to tell you, I signed up here awhile ago and found navigating the site a complicated cluster to put it mildly...Didn't matter if I was straight or stoned. Several occations I tried to figure it out...I'm hoping its better now...I'm not new to forums by any means as I'm on several that are relitively simple to navigate...I'm a hobby indoor grower of Autoflowers and have grown 40 or so different strains multipal times in a very hot humid environment..The idea of being on an Autoflower forum is appealing to me.Many of the Photoperiod forums are haters.....I suggest you put up a map of where and how to find stuff here.. It seems way more complicated than it needs to be..If you ask a question you should get answers in short order not have to wait hours or days..With Autoflower problems you don't have days to dilly- dally around..I'm presently growing in 4x4x70 with 1040 true watts Cob LED. 970 ppfd average. Any info ya'll can give to help me find my way will be most helpful...I have lots to learn as well as lots of grow expirence to share..........Please excuse me if this is the wrong place to post this..Probably won't be my last mistake.........Happy Growing

Thanks brother, we've got a lot of compliments on that one! I'm working on an updated announcement on some new features added to the forum, been trying to work a few kinks out of things.

Hey there friend! A site map isn't a bad idea and I've been thinking it may even be easier yet to do some screen-share videos with a commentary showing how to get around and do some simple forums tasks. We've restructured the forum quite a bit (and probably aren't done, it's an ongoing battle,) but ultimately it's been cleaned up and toned down (we had over THREE times the visible forums on-site over a year ago, it was a mess.)

We're also working on some dedicated tutorials and a place for them, so there will be the discussion side with teh forum, and then an actual resource side where we'll have more firm/concrete data to read through (with less banter mixed in.)

@Son of Hobbes have I missed the instructions on how to add a Completed note / tag to a thread? I've seen a couple of threads have them now and don't know how to do it - if there's a link to how, I'd be grateful :pass:

I'll do a tutorial on how that works! I'll also explain the new thread prefixes (those colorful boxes before the thread titles you might have seen.)

Love those prefixes and they open up another possibility. - one which I was initially thinking the tags could be used for, but that these would be better for.
It would probably require an extension built for the forums - no idea if one like it exists already.

Basically, the extension (or whatever) would take ALL threads with the thread prefix 'Grow Journal' and duplicate them into a specific 'Consolidated Grow Journals' section - remove the ability for users to manually create a thread in this section.
Now, when anyone creates a journal and uses the prefix 'Grow Journal' in ANY section of the forum they wanted to use, be that in a particular breeders section or whatever, they also appear in this consolidated section. That would mean that people wanting to browse all grow journals can get them all in the one place, but if they only wanted Mephisto journals, then they could go to the mephisto section instead.
The same could be done with Guides using a 'Guide' prefix. Have each guide in its relative section and then all guides in a consolidated 'Guides' section.

This would not use any further resources in the server as it would simply be a case of using an already existing thread and publishing it twice.
Responses to a thread in the 'consolidated Grow Journals' would also be duplicated in the original thread (technically, both threads would be the original thread as it is just publishing the same data in 2 places.

Somewhat on the same page; was looking at a multi-prefix mod that would allow members to select more than one prefix when creating a thread. So you could prefix INDOOR, MEPHISTO, NEW GROWER.

Then, if you click on the INDOOR tag, it brings up all tagged threads with the INDOOR prefix, followed by any other prefixes they have. Likewise, you could click on the MEPHISTO prefix, it would bring up a list of all Mephisto journals that have that prefix, but would also show you all Mephisto journals with the other tags.

So you could sort by prefix. The challenge would be getting users to use the prefixes and to use them correctly. I can force prefixes... hmm... maybe it won't be so challenging. lol
