Harvest & Curing Shock Ripening?

My Mataro Blue Automatica, that didn't auto, is very close to finishing. It has been my intention to place it in the dark, after the last time I water, and leave it in the dark until she drinks all the water, then harvest. When I was growing outdoors, I always harvested when they were thirsty.

Have I had it backwards all this time?

Dang TBM! You had that post outta here before I could report it. YUDAMAN! :D

Since my grow areas were always difficult to access, I would just wait until I would normally go in and water and cut them down instead. I live in a VERY humid area so I would be a little nervous about trying to let them dry too much outdoors, for fear of mold/mildew.

So, I'm still interested to hear what the advantages to watering very liberally, right before the cut, might be.

I would too Joe. That's a new one on me as well. I'd try it. I've used the darkness method in the past..will use it in the future as well.

i've done it with photo strains and af's, i can't say that i've seen any major difference in size but i have noticed an increase in trichome production..but from my experience i would say it's definitley strain dependant as some plants didn't seem to have any benefit at all form the dark period.

bump!:+)kik!

You harvest some super plump heavy buds when this happens. However in my experience, you just lose more weight that way through the cure and dry. So your 100 gram clean wet buds turn into 20-25 grams instead of 35 or so. Because you didn't actually grow bigger- you just swelled up. All that extra water still ha to come out. Your 100 gram harvest would have been an 85 or so gram harvest if you had chopped two days after watering. Basically the plant will end up with the same amount of actual smoke eithe way- but the wet weight will be more impressive if you chop a couple hours after watering.

I'm not sure what is actually improved by prechop watering- I haven't noted any actual improvements.

Might have something to do with the cure/drying process. More water in the plant will slow it all down, so the smoke might be tastier and richer from a wet plant versus a dry plant. I dunno, either way I think a well grown, happy, TLO plant is going to give over better product regardless of what you do in the last 48 hours ;-):bong:

:thread::thread: i let my girls dry out the dry and cure period works best that way for me. So when the buds are hanging in my dry room the RH is more stable and therfore more accreate for when they go into the jars i find that i dont have to mess around trying to get the rite Rh for the jars they go in bang on 66% :peace: Si
