Dear all,
The role of women in the cannabis industry, especially in breeding, is both profound and underappreciated. Historically, female breeders have not only supported famous male counterparts but have independently created some of the finest cannabis strains ever produced. Women like Jill from TGA Genetics contributed to groundbreaking strains like Agent Orange and Pandora’s Box, leaving an indelible mark on cannabis genetics. Nancy's Own is another example of extraordinary work which we are very lucky to have in the community.
However, many other female breeders remain in the shadows, navigating a male-dominated industry where gender often seems irrelevant yet still influences representation and recognition.
Despite these challenges, women continue to innovate and lead in cannabis breeding. Their focus often extends beyond just THC levels to terpene profiles, medicinal benefits, and sustainable cultivation practices, enriching the industry as a whole.
This thread aims to highlight the contributions of female breeders and seed banks while starting discover them.
If we could share insights, history and resources, we can collectively shed light on this often-overlooked topic. If similar threads already exist, I apologize, but I believe further exploration and recognition of female talent in cannabis breeding is essential. Let’s uncover and celebrate the women who have shaped, and continue to shape, the future of cannabis.
I like this quote from Dj Short book "Growing exceptional cannabis"
Generally speaking, mellow laid-back growers tended to produce mellow laid-back herb; whereas, uptight sinister growers tended to produce uptight sinister herb. Perhaps it was just the vibe of the grower following the product to market expressing itself along the chain of trade, I am not certain, nor do I believe any form of scientific observation will ever confirm such a debate. It has simply been one of those givens in the trade. In that regard, women have grown some of the finest domestic herb I’ve yet encountered.
Please contribute to the discussion as you consider relevant.
Many thanks all
