Indoor Seedsman northern lights

Hi VG, nice looking grow. I could use a bit more info about the "batch" that Seedsman says is a bit of a problem re. auto behaviour. I just planted a Seedsman NL, and if it will not autoflower, it will be tossed. I will not screw up my other two autos by switching the growdrobe to 12/12.

When did you get the seeds that Seedsman have identified as a problem? Mine were ordered a couple months ago. Thanks for any info. you can provide.
I got mine a little over 3 months ago. Ruth wasn't to clear and she assured me the other seeds were ok and still replaceable so I let it go. I waited two weeks to long and now must complete. I first felt something was wrong after week two, not a sign of buds and slow growth. I should have started over right away but I could tell they were female so I waited, mistake.

Sure man there's nothing to it really. You just slice through underneath a certain node and the plant redirects growth into multiple branches. It's something to do in early veg though so the plant grows into the shape you want. I've never topped a plant as old as yours are now, but according to a Greenhouse seed company grow video I saw, if you were to pinch the tip out of those tall main colas, it would slow/stop their vertical growth
Thanks. I took your advice and the vertical growth has slowed but not stopped, about 1/2-3/4 inch per day. I guess what I am asking is will vertical growth ever stop or is more going to have come from the top?

What Arjan said in the video was that if the main cola continues to stretch far above the rest of the plant, pinch out the tip to slow/stop the vertical stretch. He's the founder of GH seed co. If you've done this once and it had a good effect, then sure do it again when the height becomes a problem again!
As for vertical growth stopping, yeah by mid flower you'd expect the plant to have reached full height but well, they can always surprise you. Supercropping might be another avenue to explore? Again something usually done in veg phase but needs must :smokeit:

Thanks VG. I have decided to abandon my plan to seed a NL. I have a couple alternative seeds soaking for pollen production, so I will see how they do and if one or both do ok, I will plant a sister to be the mother plant.

I may keep the NL Istarted for pollen. I will have to get creative because there will be no room in the growdrobe until one of the other three pots are chopped. I will keep her going until she shows sex, and if it does not show sign of auto flowering soon enough, I can cut light to that one plant back to 12 hours just by putting together an extra screw in light for it and growing it somewhere other than in my growdrobe. No tent required as it is now dark here for more than 12 hours. It would be nice to try some weed from the strain, so I will see how it goes. It will stay in its ~2 liter pot, so it won't get huge, and may finish up earlier than it would in a bigger pot. Should be interesting.

Thanks again for getting back to me, and happy growing.

Two weeks after the switch and the buds are looking good, I guess. I am feeding more but still not as much as FF suggests. Today 15ml big bloom, 15ml bembe, 5ml grow big, 5ml tiger bloom, 5ml microbrew, 5ml kelp me per gallon. Two days from now they get 1/8 tsp cha-ching, they have been getting beastie bloom since the switch, two days later 5ml cal mag and 1/2 cap of superthrive, start over till harvest. Plants are 32 inches in short tent, pics 4 thru 9. The other two are 42.5 and 43 inches, 5 gallon and 3 gallon with 5 days age difference but same time after switch. The short plant will not get beastie bloom or cha-ching, the other two will. The difference in bud development is not apparent yet. Something I recently learned is that autos don't like too much potassium, in fact they don't seem to like more than what is in tiger bloom. I have been trying to figure why I get cal def after about two weeks of flowering. After eliminating about everything else I stopped giving the stuff and no cal def. I found some pics of cal def and potassium overdose and I could could not tell them apart. The vertical growth slowed after topping but will still out grow the 6 to 8 inches I have left in the tent (pic 2). I will try some lst on the short plant for now (pic 9).

It's almost 3 weeks since the switch and the buds are doing really good, I think. The vertical growth has stopped and I still have room in my taller tent, pic1, the topping has worked well, pics 4&5,and the lst did what I wanted, pics 7-10. So far so good. I have started removing lower growth, pic 3, and I guess I should thin out the center of the smaller plant. I changed my mind and will give cha-ching to all the plants until a week or so before harvest. I guess these are northern lights photos and will need six-seven weeks of flower. I had hoped I would be able to let all these plants go as long as possible but trics won't speak as loud as my empty meds jar. I will trim off a few buds to get by in a few weeks, too bad I wasn't ready for photos. All in all this is turning out to be one of my best mistakes.

Twenty-six days since the switch and I can see resin clearly now and the buds are getting better developed. It took me a while but I found out that humidity is more important to photos than autos or maybe photos put out more water than autos. The humidity was up above 60% so I moved a dehumidifier in and now have between 45% and 50% rh. I will feed this plant for two more weeks than if the trics are right I will clean for a week or until fans start fading. This is the smallest of the three plants so I don't expect much while the other two look like they will give good yields. I can tell already that the light I am using will not produce really good bud, was alright for one auto (maybe two small ones) but the other two plants have better development and resin production.

Had to charge the camera. The two larger plants are developing very differently. The 5 gallon plant (left) is 5 days younger, same age after switch and has been treated the same as the plant in the 3 gallon airpot. I expected a larger and more productive plant from the larger container but the plant in the smaller pot has less resin and the buds are wispy and thin. I trimmed the lower stuff but I think it was the wrong time to help fatten buds. No matter how much I complain this is going better than I expected and next time I will be better prepared.

Just starting week six from switch to flower. Three seeds, three different plants. The plant in the 5 gallon pot (left, pic one) has preformed the best and still has time to go so she is still getting nutes, 10ml cha-ching, the rest water. The shorter plant, last three pics, still needs time but I need herb so I took the top cola. The difference in bud development between the two plants in pic one is due to one being in a 5 gallon vs 3 gallon airpot and I think when the humidifier broke the rh and temps went up, a lot, and the three gallon pot got stressed. The trics in all three plants are mostly milky but still too many are clear, maybe 10 days.

I checked trics and changed my mind, the small plant just wasn't ready but the tall plant in a three gallon pot had about 10% amber in the mid level buds and much less clear so I chopped her instead. The plant has a lot of foxtails and started yellowing fast. Although the colas look good believe me they are not full and tight. I will post a dry weight next week. Good news is I have a bunch of air buds and sweet leaf to make RSO and kief. A little more than 7 weeks in veg and a little less than 6 weeks in flower some heat and humidity stress in late flower. I have a lot to improve on for my next photo grow, like treating the plant like a photo instead of a auto (ha,ha). The other two plants look like they will end better, the leaves are still a good green with pistols still white a tall in most of the buds and trics need more amber.
