Indoor Seeds wont pop in soil anymore, driving me crazy

Guys by the way, another thing that popped into my mind, when using the root plugs, after putting the seed into it, do I cover it with some soil? t seems there is a pre hole in the item, but I dunno if I need to put some soil on top of the seed once I have put it in? and if I do, do I use a part of the cube to fill it, or do I take soil from the bigger pot which ı will put it into? sorry im sure its a stupid question but I just wanted to be sure. thanks

Just thought I'd drop this I had c99 seeds I've been trying to pop for 9 days finally got a emera board lightly filed around the seeds seams.
I put in back in glass of water covered in my warm tent popped in 12 hours 2 did fine then these two were a nightmare but everything is good.

Hi Guys,

after 3 successful grow of autos (Mobyy dick XXL, 60 day wonder and blue berry) with 250W light, since september this year I've plated 4 seeds, and of these only 1 of them made it.

well im not too sure if I can say made i because all other seeds who didnt pop in 8-10 days, ı dug up the soil to see if there was some growth, in case I planted it too deep, but since September only 1 of my seeds popped out.

im using the same method I did last year, fully wet the soil (20lt airpot) and let it sit for a day. then dig a small hole no deeper than 1cm, pop in the seed, cover it with some soil, put on the plastic wraping film on top of the pot, put the light about 50cm from the pot. on a 18-6 hour schedule. (humidity is around 40-50% in the tent, but these are the same figures that I used last year in my successful grows.also its about 22-24 degrees Celsius in he tent)

the position im in is extremely annoying, this method worked many times, I doubt the seeds are all faulty since they are from dinfem and DNA both respected seed producers. if the seeds poped and then we saw some problems I would maybe assume its a problem with the seeds, but since they dont even pop in 10 days, and the seeds is still intact in the soil, makes me really question what I am doing wrong.

does anybody here have any kind of advice for me? I dont want to use the wet paper method in order to germinate the seeds, since I'm using autos, but I'm really getting to the point that maybe this is the only alternative I have.
any kind of advice would be highly appreciated, this forum gave me the knowledge to make my first grow, I hope someone can hep me out here also

thanks in advance to all

Peace

I like the warm moist paper towel in a DVD case, wrapped in a towel or t-shirt. Throw it up on top of your light for 12-24 hours and you'll have a tap root sticking out! 100% germ rate for me. Thanks @mephisto for the tip!

I came across a kelp powder they say if you soak seeds in it for 24 hours it could improve the viability of otherwise questionable seeds and give them a good head start if they sprout. They say no more than 1/8 tsp per gallon or it has inverse affect. IDK, snake oil? I bought a pack and will try it on some seeds from a great strain that are getting old and hard to germinate. Sold by NPK
otherwise, I always store my seeds in the bottom crisper drawer in the fridge in an airtight container in a paper envelope with a couple of those packets that absorb moisture. I was using rice but the grains were getting in the envelope and I don't trust anything that could have been encouraged not to sprout either by chem or gen. I got a whole case of those little pouches from walmart.

Just talked to NPK. They said 1/16 oz per gallon and soak for no more than 24 hours with 12 being optimum.

Hi guys, thanks for the help, i really feel in hood hands. The plugs came today, i will try them tonight. I hope to inform you of good news in max 3 days ;)

Wow that does sound like a good product. The problem when buying seeds is, ok i bought them 1 year ago, but i wonder how long they were kept at the place which i bought them.

Did they keep them in ideal conditions. Im gonna try this plug thing :), and if it doesbt pop again, that probably something wrong with the seeds.

I might be having problems cause of the cold weather. I really cant come up with any other lohical explanation as to with same conditions last year i didnt have any problems.

I also grow 1 plant at a time (due to low space, and wanting to get max out of each seed.) which is not ideal; especially when something goes wrong. but i guees im still in my learning curve ;)

It is quicker to leave the plug outside of the pot but if you get to it to late you'll see a long tap root coming from the bottom and will probably damage it trying to stick it in the pot.
Hey,

Plugs are here, gonna plant seed tonight, any last minutes tips you would like to mention?

Thanks for all the help by the way

I think you'll have success with the plugs. Lots of guys start their seeds before planting but for me I can wait an extra day and prefer to lose the extra steps. One thing I did notice was a started a dozen a few months ago and while trying to be smart about electricity just ran a single t5 above them. They took the longest to pop. If I bring them to my flower room with bigger lights they pop very fast.

My favorite dome for seeds is an inverted 6 inch old fashioned terracotta flower pot with the hole in the bottom. I make a little moat when I dig it in so I can water around it without water washing out the seed. I can spray it and just enough will get through the hole to keep the seed moist, and it protects the roots from drafts and light but lets the seed know where the light is. The terracotta is supposed to hold moisture.

The main function of the light is to provide stable heat for the soil, about 80f is perfect and under the light the terracotta acts as a little oven.
