Me again with another question, hopefully the last before I plant them tomorrow haha.

Bit confused here, I'm going to be putting my seeds into 15l air pots. My plan is to fill with soil, water to run off, leave in the tent under the light for 24 hours.

Now the planting, seen methods about using cling film over the top, was going to do this then I thought by filling the pots to the top putting the seeds in then covering it up with cling film will this not stop it from sprouting?

Daft as it may seem but will this method work for air pots?

Looking for anyone to throw in there piece.

Cheers,

Stu

Most people get a plastic bottle and cut it in half then put it over where the seed is this keeps the humidty high and the soil moist without drying out to quick also giving the seed height to pop out but cling film will work just as good if the soil is lower in your pot.i just use the glass of water/paper towel method to germ then when the seed has a tiny root into the soil about 2cm cover with soil water a little and just wait(Tangs method)

Cheers I hadn't thought of that, think I will do this instead of the cling film method.

I will get things in place tonight, I'm thinking if inside the tent is too cold for the seeds without the lights could I put something over the bottles to block light and keep it on?

If temp is a problem you can just leave the lights on (24/0), if your are planting autos. I use the old soak, poke and pray method for germination. Soak the seeds in a small jar (shot glass) overnight (12-15 hrs) until they sink and stay on the bottom, poke a 1/2 inch hole in the center of the pot, pray. I am retired so I don't have anything else to do but sit around and watch the grass grow, so I can keep the soil moist. The plastic bottle works well for the first few days after they pop. Good luck.

@Newtogrowing there's no stupid question, only mistakes from not asking questions. Everyone here is amazing, and as you can see from my thread, i killed out two of my gals already!

I've used the float and poke method and the paper towel method. I've found in my very very very limited experience that it's easier to paper towel it, when it sprouts wait till the taproot is a few cm long (I waited an extra day than last time and they sprouted much faster!

Best of luck.

Hey brother!

I've germinated 6 seeds already and it's been going very well so far. To germinate, I put seeds in a glass of distilled water for 2 or 3 days, then in a small box in between 2 layers of paper towel, for about a day, until the root is about 2cm. Then I take the seed and put it about 1.5-2cm into the soil (that's already been there for a little while, as you are planning on doing ;) ), and gently cover it with some more soil (same soil that's also been watered, so there is no difference).

I do not do anything else. Many growers cover their pots but I have never had the need to do so, the medium having already been watered with run off in the past 24 hours. Temp is at about 75-80F, and RH is no more than 50-55%.
It has always worked out real fine.
Plus you don't need to water for a few days, which is good and prevents from drowning the roots.
Hope this helps!
Peace,

Thanks for the help and thanks for the rep @MissUniverse .

I have looked at both methods but I can't garuntee I will be around to check by using the water/paper towel method so I think I will be best going straight into soil, took extra work on to try break even with my recent purchase haha didn't think it through. Seems to be the story of my life haha

It's been nearly a week all I have got done is put my tent up n wired a fan. Do the other tonight set up the light ducting etc.

Also I didn't have a big enough container to keep enough water in then thought on my feet I have a dry bag with about 30-40 litres in and I am opening it every so often hope this works.

There is something else but I have forgot haha in work and been hit with foreign exchange students wanting to learn English I have the most Glaswegian accent in the place so fun times ahead.
