I don’t use the cubes. And I’ve been having some troubles of my own lately getting seeds to pop. Had really good genetics but other factors were Messi g with me that took time to understand. I was using the exact same conditions I thought but I was wrong. My tap PH had dropped due to my water softener (really a calcium tank) and that killed about ten FBGG4. I then didn’t account for higher ambient temps and was still using my seedling mat and when I was putting my seeds in paper towels in bags on them I was cooking them and turning them to mush. Unfortunately I lost s bunch of seeds but in the end I learned a lot that will give me a better understanding. This past round after a soak and sitting in towels for three days they had not cracked, and I had sanded them prior. I gave them an ever so gentle crack with my fingernails and a day later they emerged. These were my last two Wicked Pissah Fogs so I am praying. I can get more of course but I want them growing now. Throughout this entire process I gained a better understanding of temp/ time.
Not sure if any of that is relevant but in regards to moving or turning seeds with exposed roots I think it’s all a matter of conditions and you might get that seeds to take off. I have stayed away from the cubes because I wasn’t sure if I could accurately added moisture. But I think now that you are probably on the right track. Misting hopefully will help keep the evaporative layer on the outside moist which should maintain overall cube moisture and propagate the seed. I keep my jiffy or root roots in s sealed container so that any lost moisture is returned. Once I see the slightest emergence of a root from the cube it immediately goes into final.
