Hey guys, germinated a few days ago by placing seeds in soaked rockwall cubes but both seem to have the tap root growing out the top, what can I do? Can I open up the rockwall and somehow turn them around??

The first one has already turned around, I have split Rockwood before and turned around but you have to be real careful. The roots are so brittle at this stage.

Haha, yeah I just took the rockwall apart and on both the taproot had snapped when they were trying to turn round, there was still some taproot left though so I've put them in new cubes, do you think they will survive?? They are photoperiod's by the way, if autos I would definitely start again!

Photos probably no problem. Strange how the autos look for so much info from the roots and can make drastic changes based on their condition. Tap roots getting exposed to light or hitting objects early in cubes seem to stunt them. Photos don’t seem to care about any of those things. I was surprised how resilient photo roots are in my latest round of clones. They were pretty much root bound in riot riots and didn’t care a bit. An auto would have tapped out and flipped to flower at 3”. Lol

Let's see what happens, I would of just started over but 1 of the strains I messed up the order somehow and only ordered a single seed so if this fails I will have to grow out another strain, my other concern is I only soaked this cube for about 10 mins so I think the centre is going to dry out quickly if it's not already dry, should I keep misting the cube you think?

I don’t use the cubes. And I’ve been having some troubles of my own lately getting seeds to pop. Had really good genetics but other factors were Messi g with me that took time to understand. I was using the exact same conditions I thought but I was wrong. My tap PH had dropped due to my water softener (really a calcium tank) and that killed about ten FBGG4. I then didn’t account for higher ambient temps and was still using my seedling mat and when I was putting my seeds in paper towels in bags on them I was cooking them and turning them to mush. Unfortunately I lost s bunch of seeds but in the end I learned a lot that will give me a better understanding. This past round after a soak and sitting in towels for three days they had not cracked, and I had sanded them prior. I gave them an ever so gentle crack with my fingernails and a day later they emerged. These were my last two Wicked Pissah Fogs so I am praying. I can get more of course but I want them growing now. Throughout this entire process I gained a better understanding of temp/ time.

Not sure if any of that is relevant but in regards to moving or turning seeds with exposed roots I think it’s all a matter of conditions and you might get that seeds to take off. I have stayed away from the cubes because I wasn’t sure if I could accurately added moisture. But I think now that you are probably on the right track. Misting hopefully will help keep the evaporative layer on the outside moist which should maintain overall cube moisture and propagate the seed. I keep my jiffy or root roots in s sealed container so that any lost moisture is returned. Once I see the slightest emergence of a root from the cube it immediately goes into final.

I also now wait til that seed has cracked in the paper towel. I don’t wait until it’s much longer than 1:8 inch as I do believe as many would say that as they get longer they have started to embed themselves into towel and ripping them out can shock. But by letting them crack and extend a bit I can then gently use tweezers to orient the seeds so they come up quickly and in correct direction. I’ve had a few upside down when starting in pellets. It was 50/50 moving them if the did. I think in that case they were autos and the light on the root might have been as much a factor as my handling

Thanks FB and sorry to hear about your own germination misfortunes! TBH I have a 100 success rate with seeds popping so far, I keep it real simple and soak the rockwall cubes for 24 hours in a solution of Rhizotonic and mycorrhizae with the water ph'd to 6.0, I then place the seed in the hole, cover hole with a little rock wool piece, put in a tupaware container with lid on, wrap the tupaware box in a towel and then place on my router for heat, normally head pops out in 3 days, after these 2 coming out wrong way round I will pay more attention to which way round I place the seed as just normally chuck them in and dont know which way they are facing!

During my troubles I experimented with the myochorzie. Thanks for sharing it works for you. Once I’m sorted again I’ll try that again. You know how us growers get, looking for answers and changing everything. I went into panic mode when the answer was simple.

:vibes:
