I have seen full purple stems before on seedlings which typically is not a problem. My baby magic dragon just popped the soil and the stem goes from green to purple back to green? Is this typical?
Hi Greenthumper
my photo AK47/Thai seedlings did that but only after going full purple first.
it faded lower down and remained on the top bit and under the cotyledons.
it eventually dissapeared.could have been cold temps or simply genetic.
could even simply be the soil level has dropped?
Maybe someone more clued up on the strain could comment on the genetics.
any others in that soil exhibiting similar symptoms?
Hey MrMcbud, I have 2 more magic dragons in the same soil, one of which is just starting to breech. I am using light warrior a new soil(for me) specifically for these seedlings.
This is just my own observations so don't take it as any proven fact.
In my history I have seen many purpke stems often it is an indication of the pH being a little on the high side. After I lowered the pH the purple faded and slowly went back to green but it takes a while to happen after you lower it. Some plants with a lot of purple in its heritage show purple stems with the pH already low. It doesn't seem to affect it much.
I once did an experiment to see how low I could get the pH before the plant died. I lowered the pH gradually down to 3.7 and nothing bad happenned. the only change I observed was that the purple in the stems totally disappeared when the plant was down growing in 5.0 pH. when I quit lowering the plant and just left it to return to the pH of the ground it yielded and grew out just like I never did the experiment at all.
