I have dealt with seed banks and breeders before now, have had positive experiences with Herbies, Gorilla, Mephisto, and the Single Seed Centre.
For Christmas I bought myself an 18 seed pick n mix from Mephisto and an order from a "shop" of med strains. When the med strains arrived I knew part of the generous freebies would be unidentifed beans, not happy with that since I hate mystery mixes, but was aware that's the way it is and the freebies are generous. In fact the entire order process was great. After checking the mailbox at least once a day (lol), I got the beans. The single strain I ordered was marked but the other one was a " -name withheld- mix 7 fems." The strains were named but arrived mixed together - unidentifiable! I assumed mix ment a mix of strains, not a mix of seeds! When I communicated with the gentleman handling the order he felt I should have known because the word mix was shown. I assumed it would be like Mephisto's pick and mix where you would know what each bean was. I know some relish a mystery but I hate the idea of throwing a bean in soil and guessing what it is for two months...

So were my expectations messed up??

Anyone want seventeen mystery seeds??
(Mods - not a serious offer lol)

Suppose one of the seventeen mysteries here is why you weren't asked which specific strains you wanted to throw into the mix.... When that didn't happen and you proceeded with the order, I daresay something was messed up..... Anytime the word "named" does not appear in the vicinity of "mix", it's a safe assumption the mix is whatever the broom swept up at the end of the day.....

Why anyone would want a mystery mix and why seedbanks think dangling a bag of free unknown beans is gonna lure level headed and sober stoners into the store is....... Simply beyond me.... Tall, short, skinny, squat, feeding, pot size and wots not it's gonna be..... Suppose it's the next step on the road to the pinnacle of canna excitement for true landrace cannaiseurs or some such....

Thanks Corgy, I may not of made it clear, it wasn't a mystery mix and I know exactly what seven strains are in there... the problem for me is I have no clue which bean is which strain as they are all put into the same seed protector together... I may have aggravated the proprietor though as after generously spending his time emailing me back and forth he sent me seven unidentified pictures of seven similar looking seeds and suggested if I wanted I could spend some time identifying them ?!?!

Aggravated the Proprietor.......

How dare you.....

Throwing 1 seed each of 7 strains into a plastic tube......

....... Wait a minute, that does sound like the making of a mixed riddle....

Oh, and do let us know how matching the beans up to the pics is getting on.... Lol..... Here's a :slap: to the Proprietor for his sense of side-splitting dottiness..... Good one!

i think its a fair opinion to have...if you are planning a certain grow which requires small plants or you wanted something to fit into a space or to suit requirements its nice to know whats what...you dont want to plan a small, compact grow and one of the 7 seeds ends up being a 2m monster :p but then i bet the cost of sorting them out and individually wrapping wouldnt help costs etc...

It is more work for the breeder for sure but you make a good point. I know at lest one of the strains is a good sized plant while most are smaller. I run in a 2x4 so space is a concern. I said how do you know if you're dropping a day med or a night med and he said they're all hybrids and to just harvest them with the appropriate trich appearance for what effect you want...
