With smart pots you will find the majority of water run out from the sides of the pot and hardly get to the bottom. Are your pots on some kind of stands ? Try allowing your pots to absorb some water/feeds through the bottom. I know exactly what you talking about because iv been there.
Remenber the roots search for water so if your soil at the bottom is dry the roots won't go there.

Yes I noticed sometimes it goes out along the sides, then I water more slowly on the other side of the pot and it stops. Nope, no stands or trays for bortom feeding. Perhaps i should try a cm or two of feed in a tray?

How soon do you start watering to run off and how often do you do that?
Ya see... I use smart pots (or similar), I'm pretty tight with the water early on, but always keep the top of the soil moist.. This helps it to stop shrinking, but I also pack new soil around the edge when the water starts pissing out the side of the pots.
Some strains are bigger than others but yeah, I think you're doing summat wrong here..
Maybe feeding too soon in the grow?
Maybe watering too much/ not enough?
It's pretty hard to tell without seeing what you're doing day to day mate. [emoji848]

I usually start feeding low after day 10, root stims from start. To get runoff it usually takes less than 1L, now that I think about it the soil can't be properly soaked from that can it? Early days I water maybe 0.25-0.5L when pot feels dry.

I just try to keep it all a bit moist at the start, ya don't want it wet or it'll harm the new roots IMO.. Then occasionally water to run off when they've got a few sets of leaves. I don't usually feed anything other than root stim for a couple of weeks, maybe longer (depending on the soil)..

So. How do you guys water around the edges of the pot?
I read somewhere about airpots, forming the soil like a bowl to avoid water pissing out the sides so that's what I've been doing.
I packed the soil all around the edge, yesterday. Gonna try watering along the sides first to runoff, then water the center of the pot.
