Indoor RocBudinc Genetics Purple Rolex DWC

Day One: Wednesday Nov 23
  • I have been working on this post for days, but I keep getting interrupted by life, and it does not help that I am having to do all the work by myself. Being that I am spending all the money I thought I would have a little more help with setting things up. I have about $1500 into this so far and I am still going to have to buy more stuff, but I am trying to make sure what I am getting is sufficient for a slightly larger space.

The first seed is up as of 3 days ago. It looks good so far.

The other two are still in just rockwool in a tupperware dish. I think they may have bee too wet and are dead. I will try to dry them out somehow and give them a few more days, but I am pretty sure at this point they are probably mush. They did crack and sprout, but haven't moved in several days. I should have potted them immediately instead of waiting. I really wasn't expecting them to germinate so quickly and I wasn't ready. I have 2 more and I will germinate them when I get the rest of my new gear in.

My basket lids are too big they almost touch the bottom of the 3.5 gal bucket. They would be ok in a 5 gal, but I need a short bucket because the tent is small. I have some 6" lids as I used before ordered they are only 4.5 inches deep.

One of my dual outlet pumps wasn't working, so now I have a new commercial air pump I think its 40lpm and I have 4 bubblemac 3x1x1 air stones. I have 1 for each bucket and 1 for the main res. I think I might get at least one more, but not right now.

I will be setting this up for recirculation soon. I am thinking about going with several small USB "nano" pumps. One in each bucket and I am wanting to have a sink faucet style aerator on each output line. I have to find parts for that.

I would appreciate any thoughts on the pumps. I am really interested in using the USB pumps, and USB clip-on fans. I almost bought 2 Cobalt USB air pumps but went with a small commercial type 40l Chinese pump. It is so loud though... I am thinking about putting it in a freezer that we will be using for our chiller/air conditioner.

I am going to use a small upright freezer, or a mini-fridge with lines run through the lid or the side. The plan is to run water through a coil inside the freezer, to an old transmission cooler with a fan on it to blow cold air into the tent. If that doesn't work out, I might go with a window ac unit and make a cowl and duct to mount on the front of it. I already have a couple of good window units.
We will use another separate coil to run the nute solution through.

I got a new inline fan installed in a temporary position, and I will be getting a second. Its just zip-tied to the top of the tent and the duct sleeve is just cinched around the outlet. My duct won't is here until tomorrow. I need to get it exhausted out of the closet that the tent is in so I'm not just circulating warm air; my temps are in the upper 80's.

I like the fan. It was only $23 and I got an Asurion 2 or 3-year warranty for about $3.
I will be ordering another. One for intake and one for exhaust. I think they will be perfect when I get some outside air moving into the space.

    New Fan
    195 CFM
    28 W
    2930 RPM
    Old Fan
    165 CFM
    113 W
    2890 RPM

I also have that new light set up. It looks great and after playing with the controller for a few minutes, its pretty simple to use. I tweaked the veg program to cut a little bit of red out and I have the sunrise, sunset set up for 60 minutes. The light is a little higher than I want it, but I have some hanger/adjusters coming and I will lower it as soon as they get here. I think I will stack that bucket up on something to get it closer today.

I am chasing ph... Even with the constant bubbles in plain water, it is creeping up fast. My tap starts around 8.5. bubbles for a day, and then I brought it down to 5.5 and it was back up to almost 7 the next afternoon. wtf... I also had a bucket of light nutes mixed up to 350 ppm and 5.5ph (tap started at 222ppm) two days later it was grey and was starting to stink and there were a couple of flies in the tent. The nutes are GH Floraduo. They are about 3 years old, but just opened a few months ago when I was growing some tomatoes. The ph down is GH too, it was even older.
I think I am just going to toss it all and get megacrop.

I want everything out of the tent except the lights and the plants. I have the air pump moved, and the air-lines routed, power cord for the fan and lights routed and all tied up. I have all the other cords and wires tied up and routed, and I have my power strips and controllers mounted on the wall outside the tent. I have to keep all that heat out of the tent.

All of the little things start to add up quick, light hangers, ducts and clamps, hoses, fittings, etc. I am going all out on this, but I am in it for the long haul this time. It will be worth it over the next year. I would just rather be over-prepared and not need it than to need it an not have it.

I am done rambling... If you read all of this, please let me know what you think on the USB stuff and the rotten nute solution. That is just weird to me... I've never seen that before.

    Day 48-50ish
  • I was just looking at some other journals and pics of the same strain and I'm not having anywhere near the progress of the other guys. Im at day 50

I am at the end of my rope as far as trying to do any more improvements and I don't think I will be doing another grow there with him. Next time I will do it at home, alone, so I don't have to listen any more hair brain ideas about lights. (car headlights?)
I also ended up having to pay triple the cost of the energy we used because he apparently cant understand that everything related to this grow is running through dedicated circuit and a kill a watt strip with a meter on it. I contacted to power co and spoke to a supervisor to get the cost per kwh and we only used about $20 worth of power for the first month, checked the usage on the same the power co checks meters. I was very particular with the equipment I bought, so as to use as little power as possible, and I verified the numbers and math several times, but he insisted it was wrong because he says his bill has never been over $200. Last month it was $260. So I just gave him the $60 and told him how i felt about it, and that he was wrong and I knew he was wrong but I was paying it anyway and that we would not be doing another grow when this is finished if he cant agree to split only what we use.

I don't think I can do another grow with him. I cant spend that much time over there to do everything that need to be done. He's driving me nuts and nothing is clean. I have to go behind him to wash buckets and tools, and wipe up spills. Flies in the nute buckets (just one fly on two separate occasions in the buckets), mice all over the place, roaches allover the place.... Too much clutter and no space to work. The only water is hot water out of the shower (he has a 4ft fluorescent shop light on the ceiling in the shower. its an 8 ft ceiling) I cant get cold water from outside because neighbors and his family would see us carrying buckets inside.

I'm also starting to worry that he will be picking at the plants to have something to smoke. He has been smoking the leaves that I picked, and when he has grown outside in the past he dries his bud in the microwave, and no clue about curing.

He's in his early 60's, set in his ways and I cant tell him anything...

I culled the Grape Rolex. It was short, about 8-10 inches tall, thin, very stretchy and looked like it started developing male flowers in the tiny buds. It never showed any issues as far as I could tell other than just being a runt.

The two Purple Rolex I have left look nothing alike. The PR1 is about a week older than the PR2. #1 is bigger, but has no signs of flower, #2 does have some flower coming in.

I do have to fight low humidity, so I am topping off everyday with at least a gallon of nute solution. if my meter is correct, its was around 2ppt. I've been meaning to check the meter and re calibrate it but I haven't gotten around to it. I had been using half label strength, but was noticing what looked like some significant deficiencies so I went to full strength two days ago and I didnt check ppm or ec.

I got a couple of 7 gal containers that I keep bubbling. i with plain water and the other I mix 6 gallons at a time, and pump it to buckets as needed.

I gave up on the recirc for now.
I'm keeping ph between 5.8 and 6.2, but it did get down to the high 3s once and then down to mid 4's again. That happened when I didnt go over there for 2 days in a row a few times. After I had already explained to him how to check it and adjust it. I did finally get him to start checking on it. temps can get to 86f on warm days, but generally stay in lower 80's.
RH is too low, but has gotten better since the plant has gotten larger and it is transpiring more. It was as low as 34% early on, and I think it is in the upper 50s, lower 60s. I gave up trying to control it. It needs to be sealed before I would put a humidifier in there.

I will be so glad when this is over and I can set up at home.

Purple Rolex #1 (11/21)is on the left, #2(11/28) is on the left. They started 7 days apart.

I am using the entire line of Emerald Harvest at full strength as of Wed 1/8. I have not checked on them since I upped the strength from half.

The metal links in the bottom of the tent are being used for lst.

PR2 was topped about 2 weeks ago, PR1 will not be topped, but I have taken a shitload of large leaves off of it.

I have turned up the red light to about 85 I think. White is 90, and blue is 95. Idk... I stopped keeping track of a lot of stuff.
I think I'm going to change it 12/12 since I'm not seeing any signs of flowering on PR1. It has been 18/6 from day one.

Some yellowing and necrosis in new growth on PR1?

Bud forming on PR2. Leaves are a lot thinner.

    80 Days
  • It's been about 79-80 days.
Ended up using the complete emerald harvest line, with the 3 part base.
Overall, things are good, but I was really hoping for better yield on that Purple Rolex.

I have no clue what that other photo plant is. They were both supposed to be there same.

I am just starting to see some cloudy trichs and if I look long enough I can find a few amber scattered around. I am hoping to have enough amber in the next two weeks.

I won't be using the UV on the PR,
because I still have a long way to go on the mystery photo that is just starting to bud.

I had to move the PR outside of tent and drag out the UFO.

    Pics from 2/5 and 2/6.
