Red stems

Even pH Down will go back up after a week or two especially if it rains. I use a lot of vinigar in my bubbly tank boy it sure is a fight to keep that pH at 6.0 where I like it. The big problem is that the water evaporates out of tank mostly through the plants at the rate of at least a gallon a day. I add water from my well which is 7.0 and up goes the stinking pH. The nuits don't help either. I go through a gallon of vinigar each month. Maybe if I through in some baby cukes I could get pickles. Maybe I should try some muriatic acid that they sell at the hardware store for cleaning the mortar off of bricks.

Lemon juice is a temporary fix. Vinegar will serve the same purpose. While it will lower the pH of the nute solution, it will not permanently lower the pH of the soil. As soon as the lemon juice or vinegar is discontinued the pH will go back up.

i had those red stems recently, its a lack of phosphurous. they need a feed. if you post this in the infirmary section you may get a better response :peace:

I have had those red stems or actually more purple colored to be exact. At the same time I was anxious to find out just how low I could take the pH before it started to hurt the plant.

What I did was put a cup of vinigar into a 2 litre pop bottle and poured it around the plant. I did this every day for a week. I got the pH down to 4.9. The plant looked fine and happy. the only change was that the purple stems started to fade and turn green.

The next week I repeated the experiment on the same plant only using 2 cups of vinigar in the 2 litre pop bottle. By the end of the week people were sending me messages asking me to quit before I killed the plant. I had lots of plants so I paid them no mind.

By the end of the week I had taken the pH down to 3.7 measured 12 hours after I had added the vinigar solution. The plant still thrived so I just quit blieving that pot plants can take wicked low pH levels.

A week later I stuck the meter in and the pH had climbed back up to 5.1. The plant just grew and was harvested with the others. Never got the purple stems for the rest of the season.

I remember you were doing that experiment when you got thrown off TMF the first time. Thanks, always wondered how it turned out.

This would explain how i could get great yielding plants when the pH would drop in my soil.......i always thought that they can take a more acidic level and avoid lock out. I think once it gets higher is when people have issues and lock out. This is some interesting stuff right here.

I do a trick to the soil around my pepper plants to get them hotter, i drop the pH to something crazy. As a result i get hotter peppers. wonder if the two could have some sort of relation.

You know most of the shit I do is just because I got wicked curiosity. I am certainly no expert in growing but I do like to do little experiments that sometimes really suck. I am presently moving to an experiment with making fem seeds at home and my own 250 ppm. collodial silver in a fish tank. I guess I will report on that when I have some success. Wish me luck with it.

experiments are how we learn my friend, its how i have come up with a lot of my technique. trial and error it is for me and the canna gods take it from there.
Let me know how that CS thing goes, id love to start femming one day but right now ill stick to reg seeds, until i make the cross i want.

Yeah hail to the Canna Gods I hope they will guide my hand and give my the greatest pot in the world.

I've got loads of red stems on my photos. They're also deep chunk crosses, so that's to be expected from them.

joe dirt is pretty much telling you right. not that anyone else hasnt said things that are not true.
what i see is a plant that is somewhat stressed. the purple or red could be a nute issue or a characteristic
i dont see it as an immediate concern. looking at the lower leaves i believe it it showing signs of moisture stress.
be it lack of or too much or somewhat rootbound or a combination of all.
also the reflective heat off the wall may be a factor. its worth considering. just depends on your prevailing winds ect.
i am not an expert on feeding by any stretch but i feed once every 7 -10 days with water in bettween. start at 1/8 and
work up. for container growing this approach has worked for me.
good luck too you
