I've got some nice pieces of hardwood from the forest, and couldn't think for the life of me what to try and make with them

I see that you trim all leaves off, then 24 or 48 hrs. dark. they harvest.
Ive never seen that before I am a noob to autos.
What advantage are you getting by doing this?? Looks cool.
