My tap water has high PPM and chloramine so I opt for using R/O water for my soil grows.

I've been told that R/O water
removes nutrients from the plant. Is there any truth to this?

My best grows have come when using rainwater I collect in a 200 gallon tank off the roof but I can't count on that since I live in a dry climate in SoCal. Plus I've been told nasty bio-organisms can come off the roof and damage the plants.

Hello i think you just replace the cal/mag in r/o water for soil grows if using striaght r/o water and not feeding. as it will leach cal/mag out of the soil

Hey Shred do you mind sharing some info about the bio-organisms growing in caught rainwater?
I'm wanting to try my using rainwater with coco.
Did you add anything to your RW when you used it for your soil grow? Besides like PH up/down, and nutes.

I was told that the roof possibly has nasty microorganisms. Bird poop, etc. I blow it off before the first rain in the fall. I've never had an issue. We don't get much rain here in SoCal.

I do add to my R/I. Roots Organics HPK, molasses, and Recharge.

The HPK and Recharge are nutes? It's not to make the water safer for the plants?
I get a lot of water where I'm at, especially during this season. I was looking to catch some off of my gutter system.

I wonder if I can add anything to make it safe to catch off of the gutter/roof.

I think after a good rain the roof and gutters would be clean.
I've never had an issue with rainwater. We just don't get enough in SoCal.

Thanks for the info shred.
I hope I get a good run using RW.
I'll probably just give the gutters a good clean, and remove all the leaves and shit that piles up.

I've had my best grows with RW.
Good luck!

I use RO & haven’t had a problem. I top dress with things like composted chicken manure that have calcium though. I also add a pinch of epsom every time I water.

Pretty sure it doesn't remove any nutrients...it just doesn't give any and the plant uses it's reserves then starts cannabilizing itself for nutrients for new growth and flowering.....I use RO, MegaCrop and epson salts in my soil.
