Indoor Quiet fan?

Hey Ozone

I'm planning on getting one of these too.
They are mixed flow fans so are not as powerful at sucking air as a centrifugal fan like a ruk.
To over come this the recommendation is to use an over sized carbon filter, which has less draw resistance.
I plan on buying the 100mm/4" TD Silent and use a 5" Rhino Pro filter with it (with a duct reducer).
I will also be using a Variac fanspeed controler (to stop fan hum).

I'm running the Phresh Lo Pro this time since it is skinnier than their other 4" filters. It's rated for 125CFM and the fan's rated for 100, so did oversize it on the filter. Working much better than my first filter that was right around the same CFM rating as the fan, so I'd say you're right with oversizing the filter on these to help 'em perform a bit better.

I tracked down a double throw, center off switch that I can use to switch the power between the hi and low speed power inputs on the fan. They have some blurb in the instructions about not using variable speed controllers. When I called their support he said it was because they had to put that for UL certification or something if I remember right, but that they would work. Anyhow...I decided to go with the switch just so that if there was some worst case problem and the thing burned the house down they couldn't hide behind "well we told you not to hook it up that way" when the insurance lawers came a knocking. hehe

I'm loving the switch option!!
I've done a bit of research on other forums and your right they need to protect themselves (in writing) but a variac is a good choice for me as my space isn't that big (2' x 3' x 6') so being able to turn it way down will also make it even quieter! I will also use a silencer to stop the whooshing.

I've got a 6 inch rvk in my loft groom and extract to the chimney, I wrapped my fan in cling film, put it in a box and filled it with expanding foam, works a treat! No issues! Can't hear it underneathe the room, only when your directly outside it
