Hi I purchased a 240 kit off Alibaba I got it it comes with 2 288 boards with lm301b in SK flux and AZ voltage bin I hooked it up well I put a voltage meter on it and it reads 45 volts 229 watts at full power on a hlg 24048b I have the dimmer off so it's full power I thought the boards are supposed to be 48 volts right not 45 volts what kind of diodes do you guys think these are on these boards

45 volts at 2400ma is low, however, these cheap chinese boards are not thesame quality as HLG's Quantum Boards. Hell there is no guarantee the chips are even really Samsungs! And HLG board at 2400ma draws 49.50V. Your voltage readings makes your chips suspect IMO.

An added note, yes HLG's boards cost a little more but you know your getting the best quality product, NOBODY has better customer service, and they give a 3 year warranty! I'm all for saving money, but when shopping you need to consider more than price. I learned my lesson with shitty, burple, Chinese junk. Hell HLG replaced ALL 4 boards when I had a problem with just one! They wanted to test the rest to see if it was a design flaw. I'll guarantee you not one of the Alibaba seller would do that!

I could not agree more with pop22. I am running QB's from HLG and everything he say's is true from my experience.

Just my 2 cents worth.....

Could it be because of cheaper connectors or different gauge wires or something? Or do you really think they are not authentic Samsung diodes?

My two cents but an electrician or someone with electrical knowledge will explain it better.

First of all, your doubt has nothing to do with the authenticity of the diodes. Its not really related imo. Its how different boards are driven. As simple as that.

Total wattage is Volts x Amps. HLG boards are 49++volts so they use 54V drivers. The Chinese board you bought is 45volts so they use a 48V driver. Therefore, you get slightly lower total wattage but diodes are run more efficiently.

Most Chinese board makers you talk to will tell you 54V boards are just a waste. I am not knowledgeable enough to say this is true but does make sense.

I just got refunded for my Chinese made board just because ONE diode out of 800 does not light up! We are talking bout USD125++. So they sell at half the price of other vendors and they stand by their products. I am living proof!

There is a business phrase that I always remember because I put it into practice for 40 years. "What is the cost of ownership?" I always sold the highest priced quality products. If I would be selling some of the stuff from China today I would not be able to sleep.

We put our trust with AFN as well as we should with great vendors who BTY only have our best interests in mind. If you buy on cost alone, buyer beware. Ok I'm done.

Id just like to add that despite the marketing gimmics being thrown out there, dont you for a second beleive that these companies like HLG and Fluence are not getting there stuff from China. They are litterly the same products even the same marketing materials on a lot of these. Its very easy to buy from a chinese manufacture. Put it together here and than say "proudly produced in the US" just saying. 10 -15 years ago they could get away with the shit. Now a days with the internet and logistics we can skip the middle man and %1000 mark up.

Well you are very wrong about HLG. They started out using Chinese manufacturers, but the boards were built to their specs. They spent hundreds of hours designing and testing various layouts and parts, and choosing the best. They now built there own boards in the USA. And NO the Chinese counterfeits are NOT literally the same product. The board itself is of better quality than what most of the Chinese counterfeits use. Might pay to do some research before sticking your foot in your mouth. Check out HLG's thread on RIU, might just be an eye opener to you. And while your at it, prove to me that those lowballing Chinese companies are using real Samsung chips... Yeah right.,you get top quality for 1/2 the price...uh huh. You ever take apart a burple light? CHEAPO parts. Hell I've seen some that the wires were simply twisted together and a little dab of tape on them, AND labeled UL LISTED....

S o if you think your getting a great deal from Alibaba, think again. And if you want to trust your grow, your home, and your life to crappy imatations you go right ahead. At least I KNOW I bought a quality product I can trust!
