Hi Guys,

Top noob here with another question :)

What is the downside to waiting until the very very end of the plants life to harvest?

As Muddy describes in the below post, he usually waits until week 11-12 to harvest: https://www.autoflower.org/f44/when-harvest-autos-your-leaves-will-tell-you-4889.html

I would pref to wait as long as possible to maximize the yield and get that "stony" high Muddy mentioned in the above post. What would happen if you waited beyond 12 weeks once the fan leaves are completely dead? Would the buds begin to "die" and become unsmokable? I am very much the noob grower as you can probably tell by my post.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can put up with my ignorance and give me a reply!

The only ignorance is failing to post your questions because you're too shy!

The definite answer to your question is solved forever with a 5 to 15 bucks worth in a jewellers loupe, around 60x - 100x and checking the triches yourself. Not all plants are the same and Muddy's guide is just that, a rough guide.

Even if you drop 10 seeds of te same strain you could end up with radically different finishing times.

Every plant is different, even among the same strain. I just finished harvesting some Stone Dragons this weekend. One was finished 3 weeks ago, the other two this weekend. Yes, if you wait too long, the plants will start to decline. Wait long enough and they will start to die. You can always take some samples along the way to find the stone you are looking for. If you're interested in the chemical changes that happen as the plants mature, you can find detailed information here: http://www.greenmanspage.com/guides/botany.html#Chapter 4 - Maturation and Harvesting of Cannabis. Go to Chapter 4, Maturation and Harvesting of Cannabis.
