Gave first full watering with rain water last night and woke up to this. I was told that I did not need to ph rainwater if I was in soil and not adding nutes.

Both plants are less than 2 weeks old. Thinking calmag or PH.

Thoughts?
Why would you think calmag or ph? Im just trying to get an idea of your thought process.... What is the plan for this grow? Are you going organic with top dresses an teas or are you using bottled nutes at some point?

I thought ph cuz I didn't check the water ph. Calmag due to that seems to be a common issue when using cobs. My plan is to top dress & teas with Natures Living Soil. This is my first Grow and I'm digesting as much as possible. I also have a tendency to be pro-active rather than reactive, especially when it comes to new ventures. To be clear, I have taken no corrective action. I haven't noticed any further advancement, if in fact there is one.

If it's plain water, there is nothing to ph... Ph has to do with "nutrient uptake", not water uptake.. Any bagged soil you buy will have enough (if not more than enough) calcium in the soil already.. It looks to me like the plants were under watered a bit. They should grow out of it over the next week or two if you keep the the entire pot moist. What size containers are you using?

That is a genetic coloring you are seeing and has nothing to do with water or nutrients. It is called variegation.

Rain water is not necessarily safe and/or clean. If you live downwind from a freeway or industrial sites it can be very polluted. If you catch it from roof run-off it can be contaminated with pathogens from animal feces. If your tap water is not suitable for growing get an RO system.

I concur with @Proph Cal-Mag is the number one overused nutrient addition and we see the damage it causes every day in the Infirmary. I would go as far to say 90% of all plant problems in the infirmary start with too much Cal-Mag.

Most ppl use nutes excessive, cal mag too.
