You know I'm right.

Just got a ec and tds meter not sure how to use it can any one help just checked a feed of 5 litres of tap water left to sit for 48 hours than added 5ml cal mag 5 biobizz bloom the reading is ppm 787 ec 1640 plants are in flower and on day 35

Is this a good reading I literally don't have a clue is my tap water to hard I have read online your ppm needs to be in stages

Seedlings 100-400 ppm
1st half veg 400 - 650 ppm
2nd veg 650 - 850 ppm
1st half flower 750 - 950 ppm
2nd half flower 1000 - 1100 ppm
Flushing 0 ppm

Judging by this data I'm in a good zone but I honestly have no clue
I suggest just getting used to using the EC scale, and save yourself a headache about the conversion rates. Also, when you do your measuring, double check that your meter is actually on PPM or EC, whichever you are using. Mine switches from one to the other once in a while, and I didn't notice one time. The result was feeding at twice the rate I thought, which didn't work out too well.

Ppm is an important aspect of feeding.. You can tell how much and how often your plant is feeding when used correctly. The chart, like most charts, is suggesting ppm levels for certain stages. And it's most likely not adapted for/to autoflowers. I would suggest letting the plant tell you it's preferred range, rather than sticking to a chart. Some plants are heavy feeders.. Some aren't. Each plant is different. I have never needed or used over 800 ppms max for an autoflower grow. And that was at about week 8ish..
Hi @Proph, so which PPM are you all talking about .. the 'hanna scale'?, also do you include your 'base' PPM when you mention you never go higher than 800PPMs?

I've only ever dealt with EC, so not sure which of the PPMs you all use when you mention it.

Thank you in advance :)

I was told to include the base ppm. Makes sense I have trace elements in the tap water......cal/mag.

Hanna.. But I personally use EC. I was just using ppm as an example. Whether or not you subtract your plain waters reading can depend on a few different things. Mainly, what the plain water is reading at.. If it's .1 ec (or 50ppm).. That's not high enough to be concerned with. But if it's reading .5 or .6 e.c. (or 250-300 ppm) then that can skew your true feeding ec if not subtracted or accounted for. I have super hard water and when I use it on the plants I subtract the plain water ec... My tap water is literally 1.0 ec (500 ppm) or higher. A lot of people use RO or distilled water that has a zero ec/ppm reading so their is nothing to subtract.

That's fantastic, thank you very much...and I'm in a 'similar' boat as you, hard water hitting an ec of 0.8 which causes a lot of issues as I know you must already know. I'll have a look into your threads to see if I can pick up any tips regarding what nutrients you use etc.

You ever thought about giving RO shot?...I'm currently mixing bottled water with my tap water, resulting in a 'base EC' of 0.3-0.4, the bottled water being around a PH of 6.4 (my tap water is 7.1).

No problem. I use RO water all the time. But every now and then I have to use tap. I prefer RO. That way I know exactly what is in the final mix. At this point my journals may not be of much help unfortunately.. I've been growing organic for the last few years. But I used bottled nutes and checked ph and ec and all that for years before switching to organic.
