Just got a ec and tds meter not sure how to use it can any one help just checked a feed of 5 litres of tap water left to sit for 48 hours than added 5ml cal mag 5 biobizz bloom the reading is ppm 787 ec 1640 plants are in flower and on day 35

Is this a good reading I literally don't have a clue is my tap water to hard I have read online your ppm needs to be in stages

Seedlings 100-400 ppm
1st half veg 400 - 650 ppm
2nd veg 650 - 850 ppm
1st half flower 750 - 950 ppm
2nd half flower 1000 - 1100 ppm
Flushing 0 ppm

Judging by this data I'm in a good zone but I honestly have no clue

as you growing in soil (biobizz soil n nutes) ppm/tds/ec numbers irrelevent (to a certain extent) .....or just a lil bit interesting.ec/ppm etc. is for the watery type o growers.
im a soil grower.my base tap is 160 ppm and right up to a strongest feed is 850 ish............tested half a dozen times 5 years ago,and never looked at since.
spend the money on a good ph pen.
good luck n leep er lit

Hey, using a PPM / TDS meter isn't hard...
First measure your water(source). This value you can subtract from the total PPM. If your feed schedule is correct your tapwaters PPM should lie around 40 or 50. Test it out ;)

Thanks for the input I didn't think or subtracting the original measurement will test it out now

Thanks for the reply is this archie your reply looks familiar

I'm useless at growing I've tried everything apart from reading ppm so I thought why not try it out I know it's mainly a hydro thing but I'm assuming my lady's are starving soon as they go into flower i keep having the same problem if I can see what's going in then maybe I can nail growing I've been growing autos for 8 years on and off now and I still suck just when I think I've got the hang of it and get a good grow with minor problems my next grow goes bad

yeppers :pass:
erm o cock 8 years :yoinks: i twatted about for a year or so and got no/shit yields.i dont know what changed, but after a while things fell into place.without me really knowing what i did,or did differently  so theres hope for ya :smokeit:
i still fuck up.....everyone does, just some may not show it :coffee2: a few things i try to grow by....less is more....kiss,keep it simply stupid.....the less ya do the less can go wrong.
all else fails lots of @ in ya thread :smoking:or if its something in particular.....waira at the infirmary

In the past when someone has a recurring problem in a grow it is usually in the environment or something about the way they feed. Something seems wonky on those numbers. There are several scales that EC is reported in. This is a conversion chart:

These are good numbers for photoperiod plants use the red numbers for autos.

Ppm is an important aspect of feeding.. You can tell how much and how often your plant is feeding when used correctly. The chart, like most charts, is suggesting ppm levels for certain stages. And it's most likely not adapted for/to autoflowers. I would suggest letting the plant tell you it's preferred range, rather than sticking to a chart. Some plants are heavy feeders.. Some aren't. Each plant is different. I have never needed or used over 800 ppms max for an autoflower grow. And that was at about week 8ish..

If you want to get the most out of you ec pen.
( And kudos for taking the decision to buy one  ).
Measured ppm at feed is only part of how to properly use this tool ( few will tell you).
In order to be spot on with your feeds, if you choose to be.

You should not only measure your feed, but run off coming out of the pot when watering.

This is a very good opportunity to measure both your feed ppm and water ph.
Ppm is only as good as the soil ph value.

DON'T over complicate growing.
Just look at your plant and adapt.

The less you surprise the plant.
The less you need to adapt.

Hows that for KISS?

I never sneak up on my plants :crying:

EC/PPM going in gives you a number to associate with what you observe the plant actually doing. If shit hits the fan you will know what you did or did not do as far as nutrients is concerned.

I find that run-off PPMs is a crude indicator for anything other than to tell me I need to bump up the run-off.

PH is King. I have a Blue Lab Combo Meter with a PH wet probe, a backup wet probe and a Leap soil probe. and a Blue Lab PH Pen. I calibrate them regularly and store them in storage solution.
