New Grower Pots or Bags?

Yes, you'll get root swirl in any round, smooth sides pot or bucket. I've actually taken pieces of wood or bamboo and stuck them down the sides of 5 gallon buckets, 5 or 6 around the perimeter of the pot, right up against the side, to stop the swirl and redirect the roots.

Do you use any myco? It does wonders for promoting a good, healthy root system.

I use smart pots, and what Muddy says is true. They need to get air under them as well. Milk crates would be good. Myself, I just have them on some wooden dowls, placed under them, in the bowl I put them in to catch runoff.

Homie, do you use them outside? I wont be using the standard "smart pot" It will be an Oregon Breather if I go the bag route.

I will be using Promix ( will add some chicken/cow manure or worm castings as I read in one of your threads) its my understand it has Myco in it? I noticed these Oregon Breather bags are round, i assume smooth on the inside but they prevent root swirl? I still dont fully understand root pruning however I assume it works lol

With solid plastic pots the roots hit the edges and swirl around mate, with smart pots the roots penetrates the fabric of the pot and once it hits air it prunes, doing this promotes more rapid root growth within the pot

Dude this root pruning stuff sounds amazing! I cant wait for these Oregon Breathers!!

After reading this thread I am more confused on what to purchase now. I am in need of 20, new "air pruning" containers. Ive been looking at the air pots all day and was pretty much sold on them until I found out the 4 stores in town don't carry them any more! They said "they work great, we just didn't sell enough of them." so now I'm looking at the "smart pots," which are half the price, but I don't have room to put a milk crate under it or anything else because I use 5gal ones. I'm up in the air about both of them. The money really isn't the problem, it's a great investment that will pay off the first time. Im just not sure what one is better for indoors.
If I can't decide by the morning (when I have to plant 20 seedlings) I'm going to buy one of each and do a thread comparing the two side by side. The others will have to be in bags until the results are in.

air pots kickass... ask Kindredspirit about them... he's using them exclusively now with terrific results... and can tell you where to get the best deal... :toke:
