My plants will be in direct sunlight if that makes a difference.

Personally, I prefer pots. I've tried the Smart Pots, which are similar to those bags and found them to be a bit of a pain. They need to be raised up a bit so air can circulate under them as well. You might want to give each a try and see what works best for you.

Muddy I have milk crates I can put the Oregon Breather/Roottrapper bags on. I get unlimited crates from where I work lol. I have a couple concerns, do you think the Oregon Breathers will dry out too fast outdoors? If I get the rootmaker pots being they are black, do you think they will get too hot and cook the roots? I plan on ordering today/tomorrow morning so I can plant by the end of the month. Last frost here is the 21st.

I've used black pots and bags here in the summer and not really had any problems and we get a lot of mid to high 90s. Of course, using the white ones does totally eliminate that risk.

I am happy I found your thread regarding Root Swirl. I swear that has to be the reason my plants in normal 5 gallon buckets use to out resource them sooo quickly literally after one month in a smooth side 5 gallon bucket and I had to transplant due to root issues.. Now I am consuming myself with root healthy container info lol. The RootMaker are 8.99 for the 5 gallon buckets as to where the bags (Oregon breather and RootTrapper) are 6bux and I need 10 of them....hmmm what to do what to do! Think I'll smoke one and think about it lol.

Good grief! Who thought buying pots/bags would be so hard lol! TOO MANY DECISIONS! AHHH!!!!

You should see how many different types and sizes of pots that I've tried. Taking up way too much space in my garage. Time for a yard sale!

I use smart pots, and what Muddy says is true. They need to get air under them as well. Milk crates would be good. Myself, I just have them on some wooden dowls, placed under them, in the bowl I put them in to catch runoff.

I am the same with 5 gallon buckets lol. I use to use them for my regular photo plants then transplant into ground. Now I have a shed FULL of 5 gallon buckets that I have no desire to use for my autos lol...shit! I think I will get the Oregon Breathers. 69bux for 10 of them vs 99bux for 9 pots. OR I may get the pots, whats an extra 30bux ya know? Like I said I am thankful I found your thread about root swirl. I bet that saved my auto grow this year! however I am up to my ears in reading about roots/containers now haha.
