Plants can ‘tell’ themselves they are thirsty

I have one plant that I carry in and out and know when it is dry, but the plants in my tent and under scrog can't be lifted, for those plants I use my finger and a meter. I water the plants in the tent every other day or so. They are all around 3' or more and consume more water with new growth.
