New Grower Planning for the spring, my first grow.

Ok, i think this will be the plan:

- Buy a 7 pack of AutoFrisian dew
- 3 pack Passion#1

Then i will see how much i will get out of the Auto's, and be patient and wait to Sept, Oct for the Passion #1`s. Even if the Frisians give me 10g each, that should be a few months worth of medicine for me. And hopefully the Passion #1 will keep me for till next season.

As my daughter grow up we definitely need to buy a bigger place. Then i will certainly dedicate a room for growing :)

Spyfish, autos have a relatively short veg period where the significantly increase in size. Getting less than 10 hours sun per day during this period will effect the finished size of your plants considerably. You should end up with some decent buds but it will reduce the yield. Also if your weather is like mine there are a lot of overcast days in the spring.

Not trying to discourage you just don't want to see you disappointed. If you can add supplemental lighting it would really help but that may be too much of a security risk. You may want to consider instead of building a greenhouse build a grow room that you can light and control the temperature better year around. Just a thought

Have been thinking about this, what is you make up the missing hours by using a cheap homemade box in the mornings and evenings when sun is not available. If your have a power supply on your green house of terrace, you can use the box there as long as outside temps are ok, using the cheap Box I am using at the moment in my grow, I am going to do some tests this spring/summer to see if you can maximise on your yield in these conditions, by using a combination of sun and artificial light. As I am a firm believer that sunlight is the most productive light source for a Canna grow.

Thanks Oldster

Indoors is simply not possible, no room for it :( Supplemental lighting and heating is also an issue, no electricity outside. Could run a cable trough an open window though. Or drill a hole for cable (I did that on the tiny front side balcony).

Hmm, i need to think a bit. But small yield i could live with, as long as the 3 Photos give me a good harvest.

If i were to grow only Photos, how many you recon i can fit reasonable in the greenhouse. I figured 3 would need that space?

I think 2 photos will fill the greenhouse and you will need to do some LST to keep them from being too wide. Whatever photos you settle on make sure they are medium height varieties as I have grown some outside that got well over 7 feet in our relatively short season.

Spanglish, what you suggest would certainly work if you have the time to move the plants around every day, nothing wrong with a combo of sun and supplemental lighting

Yeah i was thinking the best combination would be the first 2-3 weeks just under lights in a growbox, that way get her growing nice without to much stretch as you always seem to get when starting plants outside with just sun light. Then morning under the lights as soon as direct sun i accessable put the plant/plants out in it and then when the sun goes back down, a few hours under the lights in the evening, they would be getting best of both worlds and i am sure would increase yields in situation where not enough direct light is available.

Ok, so looks like the plan is changing. At least i hope so :) I might be able to rent a tiny spot of farmland, surrounded by irrigation canals. But most importantly; it is has sun all day long :) My plan is too:

- Purchase this greenhouse 15,9 m3 1,90m (W) x 4,30 (D) x 1,95m (H)
- Plant 5 #Passion1 in raised beds directly in ground. Add nutrient rich top soil
- Grow them in cages. due to the 5 plant limit, i'll grow photos and try to get as much out of each as possible.

I am hoping that the roots will reach deep enough to find water, its basically irrigated wetland. At least it looks that way.

Maybe ill mix and have 2 strains, but we'll see. I'd love top grow Blueberry Photos, would that be ok on northern Europe for greenhouse? And 5 plants should have decent space there right?

This isn't 100% yet, but very likely. The land is only 100-200m2, and I will also be growing food outside the greenhouse.

Here is the greenhouse:

Hi spyfish, my 2 cents is that you will want to get automatic openers for the roof vents and rig up a screen for the door as you will need to leave it open once it warms up to manage heat in the greenhouse. Five photo plants should work if they are strains that don't get too big

And there the plans changed again. Looks like i wont be allowed to set up a greenhouse the first year, so this year it will be Frisian Dew Autos growing outside.

The soil is pretty good, but i will dig some holes and add a mix in the bottom of the holes with a nutrient rich compost mix and some per-lite. Then i will make a frame for each plant to (sort of raised beds). I want to avoid transplanting, so will wait till mid-may - end of may, germinate the seeds indoor > then straight into the soil outdoor with plastic-bottle-mini-greenhouses until they form real leaves. Should work right?

I'm not quite sure how much space to have between plants, but more is better i guess as I'm not confined to greenhouse.

Does this all sound like a decent plan, or horrible misguided ? I do have some time to change the plans :) Although it's my first grow, I'd like to do this properly.

It does sound like a decent plan. You are doing this properly, plenty of good research clearly. Good outdoor strains. I wouldn't tinfoil the pots but otherwise, have fun and good luck.
