I've been reading conflicting opinions on this & I want to look after the micro herd properly. Does anyone have any proper info on whether it's beneficial to use a PK booster when growing in soil, or if in fact it does more harm than good ? Specifically I'm in plant magic soil & using plant magic oldtimer bloom only thus far, both of these appear to be organic ?! I have the plant magic plus oldtimer PK 4-8 which again claims to be organic. To use or not to use ? Maybe just use blackstrap molasses instead ?

cheers

Why not just follow the instructions from Plant Magic, including those on the "plant magic plus oldtimer PK 4-8" PK booster you already have?

In some or many respects, you are already adding a PK booster -- the "plant magic oldtimer bloom" being a bloom-specific base nutrient (3-5-4), that also claims "feeds plants, beneficial fungi and micro-organisms in the growing medium." So besides adding PK (but some N too), it may already contain molasses and/or other sugars.

Molasses is not a PK booster. It's just non-selective junk food for the more intense sugar-metabolizing microbes present. If microbial population and health are a concern, consider supplementing with a microbial supplement(s), whether a commercial mix or homemade tea, designed for this purpose. And then, feeding carbs may help provide some real benefits.

Thanks for that BII. I guess I was just looking for more info & opinions after reading about elsewhere that adding bottled PK was possibly a waste of time & may do more harm than good. You've covered a lot there so thanks for taking the time.
