I have been growing autos for a long time now but I want to grow out some photoperiod mothers to clone off for the coming outdoor season.

I have 3 strains that I want to pick a mother from each. All regular sex photoperiod. Oregon huckleberry f2 ( a preservation from a friend..),, a F1 cross of (C99 x apollo11),, and DK Orange ( ((underdog og x bubba kush) x turbulent juice) from dark side genetics)

What I'm wondering is if it's possible or if it helps me know if a plant will be a earlier finisher if it pre flowers sooner or any tells..?
I know I'm going to clone off untested mothers and that is a guessing game on the end buds. All the strains I have are between 7-9 weeks flower, the c99 cross being the fastest possible but. I know that's not too much of a difference but last year the difference between the end of sept and the middle of Oct was insane.. tons of rain and snow and I know people who chopped early and all that..

I understand that if I look for more indica leaning phenos they are probably faster just because but are there any growth characteristics early in the plants life that can tell me if it's an earlier finisher

I dont think I can help with your question, but there are two aspects I can suggest:

1) Start the flower cycle early by covering them in a black tarp (dont let it touch the bud) make sure there is no light leak. This will need to be done often, but tou could start it just before the natural 12 12.

2) Make a cheap diy greenhouse for near the end of the 12 12 cycle. This will limit the frost they get hit with as well as rain. (You will need some airflow with it)

Hope this helps.

what region are you in mate? I'm guessing eastern US or eastern Canada. In my experience doing bush grows every summer is different and most predictions on what summer will be are never 100% right. I'd do all the strains you want in and see what happens for yourself, just know in Oct your more than likely covering plants 3-6 times for frost and constantly looking for mold in buds.

Homehardware in Canada sells a portable green house for I think about $120. if you don't feel like making one, they also have some sweet shed/greenhouse plans on internet GreenHous/ Shed plans . Don't forget to plant some natural defense plants with your weed like , chives , sage, *dill*, etc ... you can goolge them, i like the one you can use in cooking myself . Don't use catnip if someone tells to unless you want something hairy rolling around on your weed.
