Grow Mediums pH of Fox Farms Ocean Forest

I think promix recommends 5.5-6.2 for ph. Id try around 5.8-6.0. Mine stsrted hsving problems at ph 6.5. So i eould think a bit lower than 6.2 would be best. All i can offer is an opinion. Trust your gut.other than starting nutrients early on low dose and ph for soilless, use cal mag starting sround week 3 especially with the qbs i dont see where youll not be happy. Im actuslly about to go get another 2 or 3 bags of promix. Worried they might not stock it over winter. I doubt they do and i might be screwed til march or april.

I suggest saving us all the time. Throw the fox farms away. Forget it and move on lol.

:crying: me 2nd that vote! haha  i uzed straight ffof for my current second grow (if u could still call it that, lol), but only becuz it was all the rage about 5 yrz ago when i did me first grow...but i admit to not keepin up with thingz in the meantime, and thus, didn't learn of all the quality control issuez that have cropped up with all ff soilz, and guess i have inadvertently paid the eejit'z price as a rezult  my ffof has been 7.5 ph from the start in my current grow, and has been a nightmare to deal with, tryin to figger out all the sudden-outa-nowhere nute imbalancez that started happenin right after preflower hit...ahh!! :cuss: it'z def too hot, or at least mine has been, lol  so anyway, no, me not a fan of ff soilz now, but unfortunately, also happen to have a brand new bag of the frog sittin here that i was gonna go with for me next grow, but now, i'm seriously re-evaluating, lol :rolleyes2: i've also got a new bag of perlite, so there'z that at least, but at the least, i wanna cut it with sumthin else as well, to weaken it a bit, but jus haven't decided what yet & still got a couple weekz to decide, so...jus me own 2 ct story :toke: ppp

Trust your gut.

I've got a couple of years experience to bank on, but no means am I a super grower. I'm still getting all this figured out and will be asking for some tips when I start using Pro-Mix. Even basic things like Cal-Mag can be very important in a soilless mix.

my ffof has been 7.5 ph from the start

As you mention quality control, my last bag of FF OF was 5.8 from the start. That's a huge difference in the world of cannabis.

yup, good ol' consistent inconsistency, gotta luv it   ppp

What do you plan on starting in it? Strains

For the longest time I've wanted to grow a couple of Maui Wowie plants. These will be the first in my new 2x4 tent which upgrades from my old faithful 2x2 who will become a nursery.

I have nothing but problems with fox farms of or happy frog. After 5 weeks my.ph in soil was 4.8. Took me 3 weeks to bring it to 6.0. Not bad considering soil ph is best around 6.2-6.8ish lol...? Personally i wouldnt mess with them. Only thing consistent with fox farms is inconsistency. Every batch is different and two thirds of people have problems. Now if you want to monitor ph everyday and babysit it by all means go for it or if you dont have another option. I think using a shovel out in the backyard is better than fox farms dirt.
So what can you recommend as a soil? I need something that isnt going to be tons of money and time with nytes. Trying to keep it simple. I know this thread is old. My bad.

@rusty shanty☆ - I'm only on my first grow but I've had a super easy time with BioBizz Light Mix. It was recommended in the new growers section. I got a bag off Amazon of all places. Wasn't super stoked about them knowing that but eh.

So.... I'm too new to recommend one thing over another but I havent' killed my plants or had any issues pop up with the soil I've tried. I am following the autobeast guide more or less in terms of soil/nutes/watering. I am not watering nearly as much as he suggests but again, different conditions, tent size, strains, etc... He did say that for the first 3 weeks or so all you would need to do is water. And I did, and the plant looks good.

Sunshine #4 or Nectar for the gods #4. Been growing in it for 4 years now. Ran FF for a little over a decade prior..Had issues with FF quality control. Same as the beginning posts here...pH under 6 straight out of the bag. I can get either the SS#4 or the NTFG for right about 15$ a bag.
