Hi folks. I measured the pH of my tap water the other day before I start my growing, the pH turned out to be a silly 9.8. It's completely unusable!

Can anyone recommend some alternative sources of good water please? I was thinking distilled water, or perhaps some plain mineral water.

That is a high ph mate..just buy some ph down solution,it's way cheaper than buying water and you get total control of the ph you want :smokebuds:

Do you have ability to buy a reverse osmosis set up for your house? I think the cost of one is about 99 Euros, on several sites, but maybe you can find them cheaper where you are at. RO water is great for adding nutes, and its not bad to drink either! Just have to add some trace elements for your plants

Distilled water is OK, but I have seen some people saying not to use it because it is free of all minerals and some of those are beneficial to your plant. I started using it but I am going to start getting bottle gallons of spring water from Walmart. They're cheap and free of chlorine and all that crap that you don't want, but still some mineral that you do. Not sure what you're area is but if you know Walmart it's the blue cap bottle I do believe. Purple is distilled and green is the drinking water. You can check em out.

I like Wal-Mart, but only have the luxury of visiting it whilst I'm on vacation in the US :]

Right now I can't afford a RO setup, I've spent a huge amount on my growing apparatus already and my expenditure has reached it's limits. Thanks for the replies folks :] I'll look into a pH down solution or some normal bottled water.

Use citrus for ph down.
You prob got it at home

ph down or citrus as said, also mines around 8 but when i add nutes it brings it down to 6.8 or so not too far off then.
try some bottled water maybe?

Make sure your ph meter is calibrated it could be off causing the high readings.

I recalibrated my pH meter and it dropped to 8.3, which is still too high. I've ordered some pH up & down solutions which I'll also be using with my soil. Is tap water with pH down the best, or should I go for some simple bottled water from the supermarket?
