aw right! :woohoo: I love all the awesome informative posts and friendly banter in here... this is the community we had hoped to build... :smokeit:

cheers guys... you're inspiring me to get my poppy seeds out again!

We watered tonight, tomorrow morning is opium making time! Laudanum here we come!

Was suprised when I seen the thread pop up in the new post! Ive been reading up on poppies for a while. About 2 years now. This thread has a lot of good info from colder germination temps, air flow to keep mold and mdew down, roots growing out more than down, dryer conditions during harvest if possable, reverse flowering compared to MJ ( longer days cause flowering) several ways to get the goods and the warning about addiction and OD. Poppies are useful, can be fun, but need to be respected or they can plant you as fast as a handful of painkillers. It takes less mixed opiates than any single one like was also mentioned!

I threw out some Mc's this spring a little after frosts. Left for something I cant remember and came back to knee high weeds! been mowing the area this year. Was fill dirt from feild right-of-ways. Gonna start hoeing out a patch for next year. Sow them this late fall and just before snow melts off. Probably 1,000 sq ft! Haha no probably just along this ugly ass fence line. Gettng sick and tired of weed eating so been planting perrenials like hostas, lillies amd others around. Poppies are an annual but figure they reseed pretty good, look awesome and have added benefits! Try to get them going on their own.

For indoors it seems a type of tray system or soilless has potential. Something like a wide long rubbermaid or something. I dont know how deep specifically but I would guess things wider than they are deep. Maybe those totes made to go under a bed? Its all hypothesis here tho all my growing happens outside.

Just a bit of show and tell from todays harvest, not a bad little lot. I've just read up on turning this latex into extract/cooked opium, so far I've been happy to smoke it raw but I think I fancy a little play with the last half of the season. Might be worth doing if I can get it right.
I'll keep you posted. But anyways, here's todays golden putty.

Outstanding RF. How is the smoke. Have you read--Opium Culture, The Art & ritual of the Chinese Tradition --by Peter Lee. Easy read and great photos, history, etc. It was what piqued my interest. Particularly, his overview of users from first time and only time epiphany users, long-term daily users etc. Multiple alkaloids of opium plant vs single pharma alkaloid/synthetic. The alkaloids work synergistically.

I haven't but I'll definately get the book. Sounds just like my sort of thing lol.

The smokes great. Brilliant taste and a real floating on a cloud high. Though I haven't tried today's yet and the one from two days ago was much, much more potent than the weekends batch.
'It's a classic opiate buzz where you feel like your floating up and someone's doing fastastic things to your penis' was what a friend recently said to me :)

Would really like to fashion or buy a real opium pipe, another project for the never ending list lol.

I've actually still got some putty left from last years harvest from the straw but I came to realise I prefer to smoke rather than ingest so its just been sat at a friends house doing nothing. I told him how to make Laudanum but he hasn't gotten round to that either. Now that I've read the extraction process though I'm fairly sure I could turn the putty into something smokeable. I'm just gonna add it to the mix and see what happens. I'll spend the rest of the week collecting latex and I'll come back on when I've got a nice pile and we can run through the extraction together. Nice little Sunday afternoon project.

I'm also very intrigued to find out you can grow poppies indoors. I'd always thought it would be more hassle than its worth so I've never looked into it before but now, I think I may give it a go. May have to wait a while, I think havingpot, mushrooms and poppies all growing indoors would just be pushing it a little too much lol. Anyone else grown mushrooms before?? It's just as fasinating. Maybe we need a shroom thread...

Holy Moly

It would be a fun hobby (expensive I bet) to collect nineteenth/early twentieth century opium pipes and accessories. The photos in the book I ref. show ornate custom pipes etc. The ritual was a big deal.

The word "hip" has its origin in the jazz age. Would say--are you hip. Because of traditional position of lying on one side (hip). Eventually, the beatniks used the word hip, then, it morphed into hippies. Really interesting etymology.

Indoors, I too have been wondering. My outside environment is inhospitable.

Will post photos of the pods/seeds here or PM. The decorative ones--you know!

There use to be a very active mush thread. Feel free to start one. I know we have lots of interested member. Medicinal mush.

Right, to many projects going at once requires tight security.

Mushies, mj and the poppies . . Dont lose "reality" exploring hyperspace! Haha mushrooms are an amazing creation. Closer to us than plants from what I have read. Higher mushrooms anyway!. Nice nuggetz! Maybe next summer/late summer Ill have some floral arrangements . . .

Rf here are the decorative dried pods. Been in basket in living room. I think they came with the ornamental basket from a hobby store. Give me a PM.

Gorgeous looking pods and seeds. Either Peony Blacks (I'll split one of my pods and see what colour the seeds are) or Dutch Ovals at a glance though I'll get back to you soon once I've passed them to the expert dude.
